Kentucky came into this game 2-0 in the SEC, and racking up those conference wins is imperative, so it was important for the Cats to be able to go on the road and get a win over Florida in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. On paper, Kentucky is the better team, but that doesn’t mean winning was a certainty.

However, Kentucky would walk away with a win, beating the Gators 71-55 to secure their seventh consecutive victory.

To start the game, it was immediately clear that Kentucky’s length on the defensive end of the floor was going to be bothersome for Florida. The Gators shot just 3-11 (27%) from the field in the first period of play, with many possessions waning down to the final seconds on the shot clock. As a result, Kentucky led 20-10 through the end of the first quarter.

As for the second quarter, it was more of the same. The Gators just could not find any sort of rhythm while the Cats rolled with ease. Georgia Amoore had a team-high 14 points at the half on 6-11 shooting from the field. The projected All-SEC point guard would finish with 18 points on the night. It was 41-19 Kentucky at the break.

The third quarter was a continuation of what we had seen all game, and that would carry over to the end of the game as well. Kentucky was and is the better team, and they went out and handled business as usual. Florida did show some fight, getting the lead down to 11 at one point late, but Kentucky got the win.

Next up on the schedule are the Auburn Tigers (9-6, 0-2 SEC) at home on January 12th. The game is set to tipoff at 3 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
