It’s been just over two weeks since Kenny Brooks and Kentucky women’s basketball have added to their roster after a red-hot start. That doesn’t mean it’s time to hit the panic button or anything, but it’s been a little bit since we’ve gotten news on that front.

However, that could change very soon.

A source tells KSR that Kentucky has made contact with Charlotte transfer Dazia Lawrence. Additionally, the Wildcats are very much “in the mix” to land the First-Team All-AAC member.

The 5-foot-8 guard averaged a career-high 18.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 2.7 APG, and 1.8 SPG on 42.6% shooting from the field in 2023-24. She’s a career 34% three-point shooter and has started 61 of 91 college games played — all with the 49ers.

She can put the ball in the hoop, folks.

KSR has also learned that the following schools are in contention for Lawrence:

  • Arizona
  • Boston College
  • East Carolina
  • Florida State
  • Georgia
  • Marquette
  • Memphis
  • New Mexico
  • North Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Virginia Tech
  • UNC Wilmington
  • Wisconsin

Charlotte hired former Jackson State head coach Tomekia Reed this offseason, which also puts the 49ers in play as well. Lawrence would be a redshirt senior in 2024-25.

Lawrence’s former head coach, Cara Consuegra, was hired at Marquette after Megan Duffy took the Virginia Tech job. So, it’s like a big revolving door there. Point being, the Golden Eagles are certainly a team to look out for.

Kentucky adding Lawrence would round out one of the best backcourts in the SEC. Alongside players like Georgia Amoore, Lexi Blue, and Saniah Tyler, Lawrence would make Kentucky’s guard play dangerous. Don’t forget Cassidy Rowe and Tanah Becker either. Both of them could be key contributors this season if the cards fall in the right place.

If Lawrence ends up at Kentucky, it would be a major splash for Kenny Brooks and the ‘Cats.
