Kentucky WBB guard Blair Green expected to miss 2021-22 season due to injury
Some terrible news broke out of the Kentucky Women’s Basketball program on Saturday afternoon. UK Athletics announced that senior guard Blair Green is expected to miss the entirety of the 2021-22 season due to a lower leg injury.
The injury occurred during Saturday’s closed scrimmage against Eastern Kentucky. Full details of Green’s injury will be confirmed in the coming days and released at that time, UK said.
“This has been an emotional day for our program. Blair, her teammates and everyone in this program are hurting as we wrap our minds around potentially losing her for the season before it begins,” UK head coach Kyra Elzy said in the team’s press release. “Blair Green exemplifies what being a Kentucky women’s basketball player is all about. Although it appears we have lost her on the court, her leadership off the court will still have an impact on our team this season. We will be here to support her through this and make sure she comes out better on the other side. I ask that Big Blue Nation fills her and her family with love and support right now.”
As a junior, Green averaged 6.0 points per outing while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and over 33 percent from deep.

Before news of the injury came to light, KSR learned that Green already intended on using her extra year of eligibility that was granted to all student-athletes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. So while this might not be the end of her Wildcat career, it is still a significant blow to the outlook of this season.
UK now has just nine scholarship players on the roster. The ‘Cats will take the court this Thursday against Lee University in the team’s lone exhibition of the season.
