Kentucky WBB guard Jordy Griggs set to return for sophomore season
Following the firing of Kyra Elzy last week, the Kentucky women’s basketball program has seen numerous departures ever since. The Wildcats’ two leading scorers, Ajae Petty and Maddie Scherr, have put their names into the portal. Five total players have already gone into the portal.
With freshman forward Janae Walker also entering her name into the transfer portal, the ‘Cats were in danger of losing their only two freshmen from last season’s team.
However, on Tuesday afternoon, KSR learned that 6-foot-2 first-year guard Jordy Griggs will be returning to Kentucky for the 2024-25 season.
This past season, Griggs appeared in just four games, averaging 0.8 points and 0.3 rebounds in 3.5 minutes per game. Her freshman season mostly consisted of her getting up to game speed, and she’ll have even more of a chance to do that this offseason.
Looking at the status of Kentucky’s 2024-25 roster as it stands today, the Wildcats have just seven players on the roster, including Griggs. She’s joined by Brooklynn Miles, Saniah Tyler, Eniya Russell, Cassidy Rowe, Amiya Jenkins, and Nyah Leveretter.

That being said, multiple sites have indicated that Leveretter is also transferring out of Kentucky. More moves could come throughout the offseason. The Wildcats also have two incoming freshmen expected to join next season’s team: class of 2024 commits Tanah Becker and Ramiya White.
As Kentucky tries to fill out its roster (and hire a new head coach), Griggs will be a much-needed addition to the 2024-25 squad.
