It wasn’t too long ago when Kentucky women’s basketball cracked ESPN’s Top 25 rankings, just making the cut at the No. 25 spot. UK was one of seven teams in the Southeastern Conference to make the list.

However, in On3’s post-spring Top 25 rankings, the ‘Cats just narrowly missed the rankings.

The USC Trojans take the No. 1 spot after landing Kentucky transfer target Talia von Oelhoffen. The reigning champion South Carolina Gamecocks are slated just behind them, with five other SEC schools making the Top 25.

When KSR talked with On3’s Talia Goodman about Kentucky’s offseason, she said that Kenny Brooks‘ squad would be in the “25-30 range” — this was before she compiled her Top 25 list.

However, Goodman revealed to KSR that Kentucky and Nebraska were the first two teams out of the list (in no particular order). So, it’s not like there is no belief in the ‘Cats there, they just need to prove themselves.

Along with returning Cassidy Rowe and Saniah Tyler, Brooks was able to keep Tanah Becker who committed under Kyra Elzy. Then, he brought in five players who were already at or committed to Virginia Tech. To round out the rest of the current roster, Dazia Lawrence and Jordan Obi are proven mid-major talents, and Teonni Key was a Top 10 recruit in the 2021 class.

It shouldn’t take too long to figure out what this team is really made of.
