Kentucky WBB Position Preview: Georgia Amoore is the clear-cut starting point guard

As KSR’s Kentucky Women’s Basketball Film Room series begins to wind down, a new weekly series begins. Now, we introduce the Position Preview series. The name is self-explanatory. We’ll take a look at each of the five positions on the court and assess how the 2024-25 ‘Cats fare at each spot.
Only two true point guards on this team
Of course, the biggest factor in the point guard discussion is Georgia Amoore. Unless Amoore quits playing basketball, she will be the starting point guard. She’s been Kenny Brooks‘ “mini-me” for the duration of her collegiate career, and that isn’t going to change now.
It also doesn’t help that there are only a couple of “true” point guards on this team. While there are an abundance of twos and threes who could probably bring the ball up the floor capably, there are only two, again, “true” ones on this team.

One of those is Amoore, with the other being returning junior Cassidy Rowe. This can prove to be a big season for Rowe is she can really solidify herself as Amoore’s backup. While you want Amoore to play north of 30 minutes a game, it’s almost certainly not a good idea to roll her out there for all 40 each and every night out.
So, that’s where Rowe can come in and be an impact player off the bench. With the shooters around her, don’t be surprised to see her assist numbers take a leap this season. Plus, the threat of said shooters will open up her game offensively as well. Her defense is already good enough to warrant some playing time regardless.
