Kentucky WBB Practice Report: NKU's zone, Dazia Lawrence improving, the Clara Connection
The Kentucky women’s basketball content just keeps coming. UK Sports Network’s Darren Headrick stood courtside with Dazia Lawrence after practice to get an inside look at the Kenny Brooks in-season practice operation.
The team has a lot to be proud of, but there’s always room for improvement.
Here’s what Lawrence had to say about the team’s performance on Monday night, and how they’re preparing for Northern Kentucky in practice now.
“[In practice, we are] just building off of what we did,” Lawrence told Headrick. “Really, our main focus in practice was defense, working on our defense, working on our zone. Defense and offense because NKU — they play a pretty tough zone. Just working on offensive execution against the zone was one of our main focuses in practice.”
She added, “The practices are very important. This is a time for us to lock in, really tune into what Coach Brooks wants from us as a team and individually. So, practice has been really fun, competitive, and just getting us ready for games.”
Through these rigorous practice, Lawrence is hoping to improve on her game. As you’d imagine, Lawrence puts a ton of emphasis on trying to get better on the court, but she also wants to be better at the smaller things that don’t appear in the stat sheet.

“[I’m working on] extending my range to the three, being consistent on defense, a lot more communicating on D, and also just improving my leadership for my teammates,” she said.
Georgia Amoore, who recorded an 11-point, 10-assist double-double on Monday, has been pivotal in helping Lawrence and the whole team as they continue to develop together.
“She’s been very important to all of us. She’s like an extension of Coach Brooks. If we need anything, we always go to Georgia first. She always has the answers. She’s been a huge help, a huge encourager, motivator. Just a great leader for all of us.”
Oh, and what would she rate the Clara Strack and Clara Silva signature post fadeaway?
“I mean, 11 out of 10. It’s unguardable. They’re the best bigs in the country, I said it. It’s fun to watch them. Every time I put the ball in their hands, I’m like ‘go to work’. It’s been amazing to watch.”
