After finishing in a tie for dead last in the Southeastern Conference a season ago, the outside media isn’t exactly high on Kentucky women’s basketball bouncing back in 2023-24.

On Tuesday, the league released preseason All-SEC Teams and the predicted order of finish for this coming women’s basketball season, as voted on by members of the media. Kentucky was tabbed 13th out of 14 possible teams, only beating out Vanderbilt for the title of the worst projected team in the conference. Additionally, no Wildcats were named to either of the Preseason All-SEC Teams.

In what was Kyra Elzy’s third year as head coach, Kentucky finished the 2022-23 season with a 12-19 overall record, including a 2-14 mark in the SEC and no NCAA Tournament appearance. The roster has shaken up since then, with three players graduating and three more leaving via the transfer portal. Elzy did add three news faces however with two freshmen (Jordy Griggs and Janae Walker) and one transfer (Brooklynn Miles; Tennessee).

LSU — the defending national champion — was unsurprisingly picked to win the SEC this season while South Carolina and Tennessee come in right behind the Tigers, respectively. LSU also has four Preseason All-SEC players, three of them on the First-Team. Tennessee is the only other school that has at least two Preseason All-SEC players.
