Kentucky WBB slips to 7-seed in latest ESPN Bracketology
Kentucky seems to be stuck as far as rankings go, generally. They’ve been at No. 16 in the AP Poll for four consecutive weeks now, and for a while, the Cats remained as a 6-seed in the ESPN Bracketology. However, Kentucky actually slipped in the latest Bracketology release.
The Cats slipped one seed line, making them a 7-seed in the latest ESPN Bracketology.
Kentucky comes in as the 7-seed in the Birmingham region. Notre Dame (1), UConn (2), Ohio State (3), Vanderbilt (4), NC State (5) and Alabama (6) are above Kenny Brooks‘ team. Baylor, Ole Miss and Utah are the other 7-seeds in the projected field.
It seems odd that Vanderbilt — a one-loss team like Kentucky — is three whole seed lines ahead. That’s understandable for someone like South Carolina or Texas — a traditional power in the sport — but it just seems odd with the Commodores. But perhaps Charlie Creme knows something that we don’t.

A second round matchup against UConn (assuming Kentucky would beat Stanford in the first round, which isn’t a given) is certainly not ideal considering the Huskies beat Kentucky in the Elite Eight in consecutive years in 2012 and 2013. The history there isn’t favorable for the Cats.
There will be plenty of opportunity for Kentucky to climb back up in SEC play. A win over a 13-1 Mississippi State team would be a good start.
