In last week’s AP Poll, Kentucky came in at No. 16 for the third consecutive week. The tail end of non-conference play didn’t feature many signature opponents, and as a result, the voters couldn’t justify putting the Cats above some of the other top teams in the country.

This week, Kentucky took on WKU and won handily, but considering the break due to Christmas, there were no real shake-ups that transpired to cause for a whole lot of movement in this week’s poll.

As a result, Kentucky was slotted in at No. 16 in the AP Poll for the fourth consecutive week as we near conference play.

South Carolina (2) remains as the SEC’s top team, while Texas (5), LSU (6) and Oklahoma (9) round out the Top 10. Tennessee (15) is the only other SEC squad ranked above the Cats, and Alabama (19) and Ole Miss (25) round out the Top 25. Mississippi State, who Kentucky plays next, received three votes in this week’s poll.

This week’s full AP Top 25 goes as follows:

  1. UCLA
  2. South Carolina
  3. Notre Dame
  4. USC
  5. Texas
  6. LSU
  7. UConn
  8. Maryland
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Ohio State
  11. TCU
  12. Kansas State
  13. Georgia Tech
  14. Duke
  15. Tennessee
  16. Kentucky
  17. North Carolina
  18. West Virginia
  19. Alabama
  20. Cal
  21. Michigan State
  22. NC State
  23. Iowa
  24. Michigan
  25. Ole Miss

Kentucky is most likely going to hover around the borderline Top 15 area until they get some big wins under their belt, and they could get one of those next game when they take on 13-1 Mississippi State in Historic Memorial Coliseum on January 2nd at 7 p.m. ET on SEC Network+.
