Kentucky WBB transfer Kennedy Cambridge commits to Ohio State

Another Kentucky women’s basketball transfer has landed at a Power 5 program
On Wednesday night, former Wildcat guard Kennedy Cambridge announced on social media that she has committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes. After spending just one season in Lexington, the rising sophomore entered her name into the transfer portal back on March 5. Cambridge took several visits, including stops at Oregon and Louisville, but ultimately landed with the Buckeyes — a projected Top 25 team for 2023-24 coming off an Elite 8 appearance this past season.
Kentucky has now lost three players to the transfer portal. Starting guard Jada Walker left for Baylor, four-star center Tionna Herron went home to Texas, and now Cambridge (the first to enter the portal of the trio) is off to Ohio State. All three teams are projected as preseason Top 25 squads for this coming season.
Cambridge was a late addition to Kentucky’s 2022 recruiting class but proved to be an important piece for last season’s squad. The 5-foot-8 native of Nashville, TN, appeared in 19 games for head coach Kyra Elzy in ’22-23, starting one. She averaged 2.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 steals in 14.4 minutes per game for the ‘Cats.
Her time at Kentucky didn’t get off to a perfect start. Cambridge was held out for several games with reasons given being “coach’s decision” or “personal reasons”. Some cryptic social media “likes” from Cambridge since entering the portal alluded to some possible disconnect between her and the program. That being said, she eventually found the floor as the season went on, with Coach Elzy even praising Cambridge’s approach.

“Kennedy has that dog mentality. She comes from a winning pedigree. She has a high basketball IQ and she’s gonna lay it out there,” Elzy said in January. “She stars in her role.”
But just a couple of days after Kentucky’s season came to a disappointing end with a 12-19 overall record, Cambridge decided to look for a new home. She’ll have three years of eligibility remaining with the Buckeyes.
