Kentucky Wildcat Fans Sing National Anthem at Kroger Field
Lexington was electric for several days leading up to Saturday’s main event. LSU fans were out in full force around town beginning Thursday night, they had a large presence at Keeneland on Friday, and seemed to take over half of the KSBar and Grille pregame on Saturday.
However, Big Blue Nation answered the bell all weekend long providing the second all-time great atmosphere in as many weeks. That was never more true than moments before kickoff under the lights at Kroger Field.
Fans Take Over National Anthem
Dr. Everrett McCorvey, the Director of Opera Theatre at the University of Kentucky School of Music, began his rendition of the National Anthem in normal fashion. However, shortly after he began, the entire Kroger Field crowd took over. It was a moment that gave you chills if you got to be there it in person.
Big Blue Nation, along with the Tigers fans that made it in, sang well over half of the anthem a cappella. Even with nobody singing through a microphone the crowd made this one of the loudest moments of the night.
Darian Kinnard Loves America
The National Anthem was an awesome moment. However, it wasn’t the only great tribute to our country of the day on Saturday though. In addition to what happened at Kroger Field, on SEC Nation, the crew discussed Darian Kinnard’s love for his country.

Marty Smith told the story of why the All-American offensive lineman wears an American flag bandana under his helmet. Kinnard responded by simply saying “I love the United State of America.” Then, he went on to speak about the unifying nature of sports and the role it can play in our nation. Additionally, Marty Smith mentioned Kinnard’s work with the local VA and the time he spends with Lexington veterans. It was a really nice segment highlighting an awesome person in Darian Kinnard.
The Kentucky faithful love seeing the example set by leaders like Kinnard on the Big Blue Wall. Overall, there were more than 60,000 fans standing at attention singing out the National Anthem–a beautiful sight in the Commonwealth. Then, to have it followed up with a 42-21 beatdown of LSU was even better.
