Kentucky's Abby Steiner wins 2nd straight 200m national championship
Of all the athletes on Kentucky’s campus, Abby Steiner might hold the claim as the most talented out of any of them.
The former soccer player turned elite track star continued her historic senior season for the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon when she won her second consecutive national championship in the 200-meter dash, posting the second-fastest collegiate time ever at 22.16 seconds. Steiner broke her previous record in the process as she helped guide Kentucky to a school-best 44 points and a third-place as a team at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the highest in program history.
Just watch her absolutely DUST an LSU runner during her run.
Steiner won gold in the 200-meter and silver in the 60-meter while fellow senior track star Masai Russell took silver in the 60-meter hurdles. UK’s women’s 4×400-meter relay of Alexis Holmes, Steiner, Karimah Davis, and Dajour Miles, plus the men’s 4×4 of Dwight St. Hillaire, Lance Lang, Brian Faust, and Jacob Smith each took bronze medals.

“It’s so surreal, especially because this is the track I started my NCAA indoor career at. I was here freshman year and didn’t even make finals, so just seeing the growth at this place has been incredible,” Steiner said, according to UK’s press release.
Her run was also the second-fastest collegiate run ever, trailing her own collegiate and American record by only .07 that was set at the 2022 SEC Championships.
