Kentucky's Laney Frye sank a putt to keep playing in the Augusta National Women's Amateur
Kentucky senior Laney Frye needed to sink a putt on 18 to make the cut at the 2024 Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Playing in Thursday’s second round at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Frye’s 3-over 75 landed on the number, sending the Nicholasville, Kentucky, native into weekend play. On Saturday, Augusta National will host the tournament’s final round. Frye trails the leader, Lottie Woad, by eight strokes in Frye’s second appearance at the event. She missed the cut in 2023.

Frye’s Kentucky teammate, Jensen Castle, also played two days of ANWA golf at Champions Retreat. However, Castle missed the cut in her third trip to Augusta, shooting 74-79.
Bad luck on 18
According to Brentley Romine with Golf Channel, Frye was the victim of a bad bounce on 18, costing her at least a stroke on the final hole. Romine tweeted, “Tough break for Kentucky’s Laney Frye. Laid up with a 4-iron on her last hole, the par-5 18th. Looked good, but it hit the 71-yard sprinkler head and kicked 45 yards left and into the water. She bogeyed to finish at 3 over.”
