Kerr Kriisa fully cleared for all basketball activities at Cincinnati

Cincinnati will get the full Kerr Kriisa experience following his transfer from Kentucky this offseason — his fourth stop in six years, and likely his final season of eligibility. The 24-year-old guard played in just nine games as a Wildcat before breaking his foot and missing the rest of the season.

At the time of his injury, which came during the second half of Kentucky’s 18-point comeback win over Gonzaga in Seattle, it was a reported three-to-six-week timeline for return for Kriisa. Mark Pope said he was “expecting him back sooner rather than later” shortly after he went down, only to back off major updates once SEC play rolled around before ultimately declaring him out for the rest of the year in early March.

Four months later — and seven months after surgery — he’s been fully cleared to return to all basketball activities, Cincinnati coach Wes Miller confirmed this week.

Kriisa committed to the Bearcats on April 6 after entering the portal on March 31.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Kerr to Cincinnati,” Miller said of Kriisa. “We’ve played against Kerr multiple times over the last few years and know first-hand how much he impacts winning. He’s a relentless competitor that brings a wealth of experience and winning to our program. He has an elite basketball IQ and an infectious personality that Bearcats fans will love.”

“I like Coach Wes. I like the intensity, I like the energy, I like the university, I like the colors we have, I like the logo. Everything combined, I just felt like this was the perfect spot,” the former Wildcat said of his commitment.

Kriisa started his career at Arizona, playing three seasons in Tucson before transferring to West Virginia. He was a one-and-done in Morgantown, leading to another transfer and single season at Kentucky before hitting the portal again. He averaged 9.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game at UA, followed by 11.0 points, 4.7 assists and 2.5 rebounds at WVU before 4.4 points, 3.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds per contest at UK.

Ironically, Kriisa — set to turn 25 years old in January — will face off against West Virginia and Arizona in the Big 12 next season. All we need is Cincinnati to take on Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament to complete the full-circle cycle to wrap up his career.
