Henry Clay 42, Douglass 37 – 11th Region Finals

Clinging to a one-point lead, Henry Clay missed the front end of the bonus, but instead of Frederick Douglass getting a shot to win the game, Kyan Miller took away their chance. Miller got in between two Broncos to secure the rebound. He was quickly fouled and sent to the line to shoot the bonus. He drained two huge free throws to push Henry Clay’s lead to 39-36 with 36 seconds remaining.

Miller then got a deflection that led to a Mason Hawkins steal. The Blue Devils missed the front end of the bonus, though, allowing Douglass one last chance to tie. Henry Clay forced a deep contested 3-pointer that was rebounded by Hawkins, who hit two free throws with four seconds left to seal the 41-36 victory and 11th region championship for the Blue Devils. Kanye Henderson was named tournament MVP. He led Henry Clay with 15 points.

Douglass, who also finished region runner-up last year, had their chances down the stretch but missed several crucial free throws. They finished 9-20 from the line and 1-12 from deep. Tyson Barrett picked up three first-half fouls and a fourth fairly early in the second half. Kai Simpson, who missed most of the second quarter with an injury, returned after halftime but didn’t seem to be 100%. Freshman Armelo Boone led the Broncos with 17 points.

Henry Clay will play Murray on March 17 at 6 p.m. at Rupp Arena.

No. 3 Male 82, No. 2 Ballard 80 (3OT) – 7th Region Finals

Louisville commit Kaleb Glenn’s 3-pointer gave Male a 2-point lead and the Bulldogs’ steal and layup with 8.9 seconds left put them up four. However, a controversial technical foul gave Ballard a lifeline. Maker Bar hit two free throws and Keno Hayden banked in a shot to force OT. Glenn finally ended the game in 3OT with a buzzer-beater. He finished with 38 points.

Male will play either No. 5 Warren Central or No. 9 Bowling Green on Thursday, March 17 at 8:30 p.m. at Rupp Arena.
