Back in June, Kobi Albert was on campus for an unofficial visit and the Fairfield (Ala.) Prep product was getting the red carpet treatment from the coaching staff.

Offensive coordinator Liam Coen and multiple defensive coaches were campaigning about what position at camp Albert would go to during the summer camp when everyone split into drills. It was clear that the four-star athlete was at the top of Kentucky’s recruiting big board.

However, the Wildcats lost Albert to Auburn a few weeks later. Yet, assistant coach Jon Sumrall stayed aggressive in this recruitment. The Wildcats got Albert on campus for an unofficial visit in October and followed it up with an official visit in December.

The Wildcats were able to come through with a flip as Albert signed with Kentucky on Wednesday. Now the only question remains where the 5-foot-11 athlete will play in college.

The blue-chipper is already getting compared to some big names.

“I’m not comparing him saying he’s the next Lynn Bowden,” Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops said when asked about Albert being similar to Bowden. “I’m not saying that. Neither one of us are. But he’s that kind of an athlete, just a great athlete, put a football in his hands and he’s going to play.

“Then you put a basketball in his hands, you’re going to see him dunk it. It’s like he’s explosive, and he’s a very good football player and could definitely play either side of the ball for us.”

As a senior, Albert recorded 31 tackles and four interceptions on defense. On offense, Albert logged 30 receptions for 555 yards and scored 12 total touchdowns. The athlete is a playmaker on both sides of the ball.

Kentucky is currently in a good spot at wide receiver when it comes to scholarship numbers. However, the same is not true at safety where the Wildcats are set to lose both Tyrell Ajian and Yusuf Corker after the season. Plugging Albert in at deep safety could be the immediate move for the diaper dandy.

It’s clear that Kentucky landed a football player in Kobi Albert. The blue-chipper has the looks of a player that could contribute right away as a true freshman.

“One of the best athletes we’ve recruited,” said Stoops. “Can play multiple positions.”
