Koby Brea signs with Kentucky, Mark Pope calls him a 'dangerous, dangerous man'
It’s official: Koby Brea is a Kentucky Wildcat, signing with the program on Wednesday.
And it doesn’t get much bigger than what his addition means for Mark Pope’s debut roster in Lexington. Don’t believe me? Just ask him.
He’ll tell you Kentucky just added the most efficient shooter college basketball has seen in the last ten years.
“By the numbers, Koby Brea is the most efficient mid-to-high major player in college basketball in the last decade,” Pope said. “He’s the best returning shooter in college basketball next year. Koby is a dangerous, dangerous man who is a great human with an incredible family.
“He will be key in allowing us to play the style of basketball that we love the most. Koby and this group are going to take Big Blue Nation on an incredible ride.”
The numbers back that up, Brea finishing third in the nation this past season in 3-point percentage at 49.8% with 100 makes on 201 attempts. Averaging 3.0 made threes per game, he led college basketball in effective field goal percentage among guards at 71.5% and was second in true shooting percentage among guards at 72.2%. He also graded out in the 100th percentile on catch-and-shoot threes with an 83 eFG% on 6.1 attempts per game.

To put it simply, you just don’t shoot better than what Brea did this past season, certainly not at the volume.
A native of Washington Heights, New York, Brea has made 21 starts in 113 games for the Flyers. Dayton went 85-41 with Brea on the roster and racked up 22 or more wins in each of the last three seasons. He through as a senior with 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game en route to A-10 Sixth Man of the Year honors for the second time in his career. He joins Xavier’s James Posey (1997 and 1998) as the league’s only two-time winners of the award.
His best performances came in big moments, as well, going for 13 points with a game-tying three in the final seconds in a win over LSU, 22 points at SMU including seven of eight to down the stretch to close out the two-points win, 17 points against Oakland on five makes from three and 18 in a comeback win over VCU that included four threes.
In all, Brea has recorded 38 double-digit scoring efforts and connected on three or more from distance on 33 occasions. He has scored 889 career points, hauled in 351 rebounds, dished out 120 assists and connected on 224 3-pointers at a 43.4% rate.
