With the 2025 College Baseball season just around the corner, KSR will be previewing all 15 SEC teams that will be competing with Kentucky for an SEC crown this season. Up next; the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The 2025 season will look to be a bounce back one for head coach Dave Van Horn’s Razorbacks. Van Horn enters his 23rd season as the man in charge in Fayetteville, where he has posted an 883-457 (353-272) record. Arkansas finished the 2024 season with a 44-16 (20-10) record, earning the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament as the top dogs in the West.

The Razorbacks had a disappointing showing in Hoover however, as they were eliminated in two games by No. 10 seed South Carolina and No. 3 seed Kentucky. This carried over to the 2024 NCAA Tournament, as they were bounced from the Fayetteville Regional in three games by No. 3 seed Kansas State and No. 4 seed SEMO.

“We sat down after the season and we talked about a lot of things [as a coaching staff],” coach Van Horn said during his season preview. “The personnel we have now fits more what we want to do here day in and day out.”

Although Arkansas lost multiple great players to the 2024 MLB Draft and graduation including the 2024 ABCA/Rawlings National Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-American Hagen Smith and Third Team All-American Peyton Stovall, the Hogs absolutely loaded up in the Transfer Portal.

Sophomore INF Kuhio Aloy (brother of now teammate Wehiwa Aloy) from BYU and sophomore INF Cam Kozeal from Vanderbilt lead an absolutely loaded class that was ranked No. 2 in all of College Baseball by D1Baseball. Kozeal, who was named SEC Freshman of the Week (March 4) after leading all of NCAA DI with 14 hits on the week, was lured from Vanderbilt to Arkansas after hitting for a .284 AVG his freshman season.

Along with the strong transfer class, 2023 Second Team All-SEC selection outfielder Kendall Diggs returns for his senior season along with 2024 Freshman All-SEC Team selections third baseman Nolan Souza and right-hander Gabe Gaeckle. With two sophomore superstars in Souza and Gaeckle, the future is insanely bright in Fayetteville. The Hogs will open the season ranked No. 5 in the country.

Arky is currently scheduled to face seven SEC teams present in D1Baseball’s Preseason Top 25 Rankings this season (No. 1 Texas A&M, at No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Tennessee, at No. 8 Georgia, at No. 10 Florida, at No. 16 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Texas).

Kentucky is currently not scheduled to face Arkansas in the regular season, but could meet the Hogs in the SEC Tournament (like they did last season) or the Men’s College World Series. Arkansas leads the all-time series against Kentucky 29-47, although the Cats took the series over the Hogs two games to one last season.
