KSR College is One Year Old!

by:Kristen Geil01/17/13
Thursday evening confession: I got a little teary-eyed thinking about KSRCollege.com and how far we've come in the past year. When we first started, with Ally Tucker pioneering us to blog success (#TransyPun), we were a bunch of nervous, geeked-out college kids starry-eyed over the chance to cover UK for Kentucky Sports Radio. We've come a long way, baby- Ally has made the jump to the big leagues, John Wilmhoff got hired by ESPN, and David Mulloy learned last week what a sub-tweet is. And me? Personally, I'm just happy that one year later, I'm still excited every day to cover Kentucky sports (okay, summer was a struggle, but I still loved it). Also, I'm proud that every single one of our writers is a real person and I haven't been Te'oed yet- although the verdict is still out on Andrew McCarthy.   Thanks to Matt, Drew, and Tyler for showing us the ropes and helping us follow our dreams. And thanks especially to you, the readers, for making us the third biggest UK blog and for keeping us humble in the comments section. Kentuckyjoe, you're the man. Keep reading, we have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming year.   With that, what better way to celebrate KSR College's first birthday than by reading the best of this week? We've added new writers, and they are bringing it with their posts. I'm a proud editor. Enjoy, and raise your bourbon to KSRC, because some of them aren't old enough to raise their glasses themselves.   -On Tuesday night, Brennan English attended the UT-UK basketball game in the commoners' section of Rupp: The Upper Arena. She recaps the everyman experience in A Profile of Upper Arena versus UT: Blue Hairs Beware. -It's a never-ending debate: what's missing from this year's UK basketball team? Austin Greenwell weighs in.  -One thing we can agree on? Thank God For Nerlens Noel (yes, it merits capitalization). Austin Monnett argues that Unibrows Cast Large Shadows and reminds readers to be thankful for what we have right now.  -It's not pleasant, but it has to be done: Dean Bowling took a look at other bubble teams to see how Kentucky stacks up.  -Thanks to Manti Te'o, social media is the hot topic of the day. Conveniently, Matt Wheatley recently wrote a post about The Rise of Twitter Recruiting and whether it has any effect on commitments. -Speaking of Te'o, who here loves Pete Thamel? No one? Okay, good. Check out Andrew McCarthy's post on The 5 "Best" Parts of Pete Thamel's Manti Te'o "Reporting." I died a little. -With all the recent talk about renovations to Commonwealth Stadium and Nutter Field House, Tyler Johnson (who was lucky enough to attend the press conference) gives us a who's-who of politicians instrumental in the funding and what UK fans should know about them. Matt and Drew, read this to further KSR's #OccupytheCapitol movement. -Adam Schilt returned with his SEC Wacky Wednesday Awards, featuring an unfortunate name and the phrase "Salty Irish." Is that a type of shot? -In the midst of basketball season and football excitement, it's easy to forget that baseball is approaching- and whaddya know, Kentucky is ranked in the preseason Top Ten! Brooks Holton has all the baseball information for you here   @KristenGeilKSR
