Welcome back folks! Hope you all enjoyed your stay in Adair County. Did you eat too much? I know I did. Now let's hop on the Cumberland Parkway and head southwest to our next stop on this county tour, Allen County!
Founded in 1815,
Allen County was named after Colonel John Allen. Allen was born in Virginia, then moved to Kentucky as a child. He then went back to Virginia to study law. After dying in the War of 1812, there are now counties named after him in Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana for some reason. Being one of our state's few prohibition, or dry counties, Allen County does not permit the sale of alcohol. But don't let that stop you from having a night out on the town doing, um, whatever it is people do at night without alcohol.

Allen County's largest city is
Scottsville, with just over 4,200 people. Scottsville's central location to Bowling Green (20 miles), Nashville (60 miles), and Louisville (120 miles) make it possible for you to have an easy weekend away. I don't know why you'd want to leave though, because Scottsville was just named
Kentucky's 5th safest city by Safewise. With zero car thefts or arsons and only 1 violent crime reported in 2012, the only gun shots you'll hear will be at the Dumont Hill Civil War reenactment each June.
Allen County was also home to one of the greatest character actors you've probably seen 50 times without realizing it.
Charles Napier was born in Mt. Union in 1936. After a stay in the Army and graduation from WKU in 1961, Napier's entertainment career began. Usually cast in 'tough guy' roles due to his chiseled jaw and deep voice,
Napier appeared in everything. Seriously, everything. You an action movie guy? He was in Rambo. More of a comedy person? Austin Powers. Drama? Silence of the Lambs. Terrible movies? Ernest Goes To Jail. See ... everything.
