Are these Kentucky fans in Milwaukee patting their heads because a Wildcat just threw down a ferocious dunk in the NCAA Tournament, or are they fired up to see Stoops’ squad their helmets back on for spring football? It’s hard to say.

The Kentucky football team enjoyed spring break during the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament. They practiced on Monday and will speak with the media following tomorrow morning’s session. Until then, here are a few noteworthy nuggets.

A Significant In-State Visitor

Louisville has seized a moment on the recruiting trail. After consecutive quality seasons and their first Governor’s Cup win in a long time, they’re pushing for as many commitments as possible early in the process, and that includes a couple of in-state additions. That does not mean Kentucky has conceded the Commonwealth to the redbirds.

Seneca Driver still has a few months left in his sophomore season, but he’s already a Top-5 player at his position. On3 ranks the 6-7, 225-pound tight end as the No. 62 player in the 2027 recruiting class. Even though he’s an underclassman, Vince Marrow has been recruiting him for years. Texas, Penn State, Alabama, Notre Dame, all of the power players in college football will be recruiting Driver, but he was in Lexington on Monday to watch the Wildcats. It’s still early in the process, but he’s already perfected the Big Dog finger-point.

Underclassmen Quarterbacks on Kentucky’s Radar

Quarterback recruiting is always a year ahead of schedule. Many of the quarterbacks targeted by Bush Hamdan are 2027 prospects. Four-star passer Oscar Rios will be in Lexington in a couple of weeks. Knoxville QB DJ Hunter is making an unofficial visit to Kentucky this weekend. Florida QB Champ Smith has offers from Arkansas, Auburn, and Ole Miss, among others, and he’ll be checking out spring practice on Wednesday.

Another Mic’d Up Moment at Kentucky Football Practice

Last month, we were introduced to the Kentucky football newcomers. Josh Braun has spent time at Florida and Arkansas, and one thing about Kentucky stands out above the others.

“I think how we treat mobility here is the best in the conference. There’s an emphasis on mobility here that has not been as emphasized at schools I’ve been in the past,” said Braun.

Words only can illustrate that so much. See exactly how Eric Wolford is teaching fundamentals during Kentucky football spring practice.
