For the third straight year, Mark Stoops’ Kentucky football team will try to knock off No. 1 Georgia. After swinging and missing twice, is the third time the charm for the Wildcats?

The two-time defending National Champs are in the midst of a 32-game regular season win streak. They have not lost a night game at home since 2009, the Wildcats’ last win over the Dawgs. Stoops has kept it close enough to cover the spread in each of the last four meetings in this series, but Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs have not flinched. Even so, this year feels different.

Georgia trailed at halftime against South Carolina, then fell behind in the third quarter last week at Auburn. The defense that once suffocated rushing attacks ranks 77th in EPA against the run. A program that once ran the ball right through its opponents is ninth in the SEC in rushing.

There are cracks in the foundation, but are they big enough for Kentucky to tear down the castle of the Kings of College Football? Brad White might have the best defense he’s ever deployed, Ray Davis is one of the most explosive players in the SEC, but the passing game has been inconsistent. If Devin Leary and Co. connect, history, and the top spot in the SEC East, is for the taking.

The Last Time Kentucky Beat Georgia

Kirby Smart needed a field goal from Rodrigo Blankenship as time expired to take down Kentucky in his first season as the Georgia head coach. That’s the closest the Cats have been to knocking off the Dawgs since 2009. Georgia out-gained Kentucky 487-260, but they couldn’t hold onto the football. Rich Brooks’ defense forced four turnovers, Randall Cobb rushed for two scores and Derrick Locke caught two touchdown passes to knock off Georgia 34-27 in a game that was filled with explosive highlights.
