KSR Sources: TyTy Washington will attempt to play vs. Kansas
Freshman guard TyTy Washington will be back in the lineup for Kentucky when the Wildcats take on Kansas this afternoon, a source tells KSR.
Washington missed Kentucky’s game against Mississippi State after suffering a left ankle injury in the first half of the team’s loss at Auburn. Prior to the injury, the freshman standout was averaging 14.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the field.
In his absence, Kentucky went on to lose at Auburn by a final score of 80-71 and had to fight off Mississippi State with an 82-74 overtime victory on Tuesday.
UK head coach John Calipari was uncertain of Washington’s availability against Kansas on Friday, confirming that the freshman guard did not practice Thursday.
“He didn’t practice yesterday,” Calipari said. “… If TyTy is not 100%, this isn’t a game you play a guy at 80%; it’s just not.”
Sources close to Washington tell KSR that the freshman guard participated in a light practice Friday afternoon and his availability would be determined Saturday morning depending on how his ankle responded.

Participating in an early shootaround with the team, sources tell KSR that Washington will attempt to play against Kansas if all goes well leading up to tip-off, as expected.
Outside of Washington, Calipari also added that Jacob Toppin and Daimion Collins missed practice Thursday, with the former also dealing with an ankle issue. Collins’ injury has not been confirmed.
“Daimion was out [Thursday],” Calipari said Friday. “I’m hoping to see today. I want him in there but it’ll be a rough-house game.”
Washington, Toppin and Collins all participated in early pregame shootaround Saturday, a sign all three may be available vs. the Jayhawks.
Kentucky vs. Kansas will tip off at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN.
