KSR Today: 10 Days until Football Time in the Bluegrass
Good morning, friends. We are only TEN days away from the start of the Kentucky Football season, which makes this Wednesday better than most. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and picture yourself in the Blue Lot with a cold beverage counting down the minutes until kickoff. It’s almost here.
Football is where we’ll start today’s roundup, albeit on a much more serious note.
UK Football frat party fight preliminary hearing set for today
Today is the preliminary hearing for the six Kentucky Football players charged with first-degree burglary stemming from an incident at an off-campus frat party back in March. RJ Adams, JuTahn McClain, Joel Williams, Andru Phillips, Earnest Sanders, and Vito Tisdale pleaded not guilty to the charge on Friday. According to the charging documents, three players were asked to leave a party, then returned with three others to force their way into the private home. Tisdale was also charged with wanton endangerment for allegedly brandishing a firearm.
On Friday, Fayette County District Judge Joseph T. Bouvier, the father of former UK wide receiver David Bouvier, ordered the players to stay away from the victims and the site where the incident took place before scheduling today’s hearing.
We’ll bring you all of the developments as they happen today. On Saturday, Mark Stoops said UK will let the process unfold.
“Anytime there are situations like that, we take it very seriously and we address it and we look at it. We did. Is there new information that we don’t know about? I’m not sure. That’s what we have to look at, but they deserve an opportunity to defend themselves. We’ll let that process play out.”
Jacquez Jones may be ready for the season opener
Last night, defensive coordinator Brad White chatted with reporters after practice and gave us an update on linebacker Jacquez Jones. The Ole Miss transfer has been sidelined most of the preseason with a minor injury, but White believes he could return in time for the season opener vs. Louisiana Monroe.
“I think there’s an opportunity for that,” White said, adding that when Jones does take the field, he expects him to get up to speed pretty quickly.
“Coming off an injury, those guys tend to—once they get healthy, the game speed and understanding our playbook, I do not see being an issue.”
Nick Roush will have more from practice this morning, and on Thursday, we’ll hear from Liam Coen and members of the offense. Until then, enjoy all of the comments from White, Marquan McCall, and Davonte Robinson below.

COVID-19 Game Day Protocols
Yesterday, LSU announced it will require fans 12 and over to present proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours for entry to Tiger Stadium. Later in the afternoon, Georgia announced it is not requiring proof of vaccination, masks, or social distancing at its football games this fall. So far, Kentucky has only said it will require masks indoors, in elevators, and in crowded areas at Kroger Field. With 10 days to go until the season opener and cases surging, will that policy remain the same? We’ll keep our ears to the ground to find out.
UK unveils banner for John Schlarman
Got tissues nearby? Yesterday, the Kentucky Football team unveiled the first of many tributes to the late, great John Schlarman: a giant banner outside Gate 12. The video of Schlarman’s wife LeeAnne and children seeing it for the first time will bring a tear to your eye this morning.
Emoni Bates will announce decision on Friday
There were reports that Emoni Bates would announce his final decision today, but his dad says not so fast. Bates’ father posted on Instagram that his son will make his announcement Friday at 5 p.m. CT. The five-star wing is choosing between Memphis, Michigan State, Oregon, and the NBA G League.
All signs seem to be pointing towards Memphis, where he would team up with fellow five-star phenom Jalen Duren. If Penny can’t win big with those two, he may not be able to win at all.
Kentucky WBB’s Team-Building Summer Continues
Earlier this summer, Kyra Elzy took her team to Red River Gorge for some mandatory fun. This past weekend, the women’s basketball team went to Fort Campbell to work on their team-building skills.
Something tells me all of those girls could beat me on a ropes course.
