KSR Today: A Pivotal Point in the Coaching Carousel

We could be approaching the end of the college football coaching carousel, or firing up that machine into high gear. The Big Blue Wall received formal introductions to new offensive line coach Zach Yenser on Thursday. If Mark Stoops has his druthers, it will be the final move he’s making on his coaching staff this offseason. However, we’re still waiting on one big piece of the puzzle.
Kevin O’Connell was introduced as the Minnesota Vikings head coach on Thursday. If the Vikings picked Jim Harbaugh, the BBN would simply be waiting for spring practice to start. Instead, there’s an offensive coordinator vacancy in Los Angeles. Liam Coen and Greg Olson are reportedly the top two candidates. Following the Rams’ victory “parade” on Wednesday, we began the waiting game. Twenty-four hours came and went without any significant news. The waiting game continues. We could receive a Friday news dump that Liam is leaving Lexington to return to LA, we could learn McVay is calling it quits or that he’s bringing Olson in as the OC. Even worse, we might have to wait even longer to learn what’s next for Kentucky’s offense. Even in February, it’s not easy for Kentucky football fans to be patient. Luckily, there will be some good news to chew on Friday afternoon.
INCOMING: Upgraded Football Facilities
The UK Board of Trustees is meeting this afternoon to give its stamp of approval to $30 million in capital upgrades to UK athletics facilities. The agenda, released Thursday afternoon, revealed rough plans for UK to invest $5 million apiece into upgrading Nutter Field House and Kroger Field. Track and field is moving its indoor complex near the old baseball stadium, allowing Stoops’ troops to open up Nutter for a full-sized field with brand new turf. Kroger Field will soon get new turf, along with audio/visual upgrades. The latter is expected to include a new sound system, scoreboards and LED lights. Mitch Barnhart is practicing what he preached and fulfilling promises to Kentucky’s head football coach as he prepares to set a school record for all-time wins.
John Calipari Previews Alabama
Kentucky is 28 hours away from hosting Alabama for a Top 25 matchup at Rupp Arena. We will not hear an injury update, but we will hear from John Calipari and a couple of players ahead of the matchup. The Friday press conference is tentatively slated to started at 11:30 am ET and KSR will have everything you need to know from the talking session.
Opening Day for Kentucky Baseball
The Bat Cats are officially back in action. Nick Mingione’s sixth season as the Wildcats’ head coach begins at Jacksonville State. The three-game series in Alabama begins this afternoon at 4 pm ET, followed with a Saturday showdown at the same time and a 2 pm ET finale on Sunday. You can watch all of the action on ESPN+.

Another Dub for Kentucky Women’s Basketball
Kyra Elzy’s Cats are on a roll. Kentucky defeated Vanderbilt 69-65 at Memorial Coliseum Thursday night to win its third straight game and improve to 12-11, 5-8 in SEC play. Dre’Una Edwards led the Cats with 20 points and seven boards, while Rhyne Howard chipped in 17 points. See the best of the best from the vengeful victory over Vandy.
Final Friday of HS Hoops
It’s closing time on the high school hoops season. This is the final weekend of regular season boys basketball action around the Commonwealth of Kentucky. District tournaments tip-off next week. Enjoy some high quality basketball nearby before it’s gone.
Worst Uniforms Ever?
Most Kentucky fans are sick and tired of seeing the same Kentucky basketball uniforms every single time they take the court. Variety is the spice of life and UK refuses to deviate from salt and pepper. However, it could be worse. You could throw in too much turmeric and get this garbage from Arizona State.
KSR is On the Road
The Kentucky Sports Radio crew is taking its talents to Southern Kentucky. Matt Jones, Ryan Lemond and Drew Franklin will be in Somerset at Don Franklin Kia (138 Turner St) between 10-Noon to get you ready for a matchup between the Cats and the Crimson Tide. We’ll see you there.
