It’s another big Monday in Lexington with head coaches in both major sports holding press conferences on each side of campus today. In football, Mark Stoops and his team begin the first of the two remaining weeks of the season. In basketball, John Calipari and the young Wildcats play one of the biggest games on the schedule tomorrow night in Chicago against the No. 1 team in the country.

Oh, and Sunday gave the Big Blue Nation a BIG SURPRISE out of Western Kentucky.

Travis Perry’s Surprise Commitment

On Sunday, Travis Perry shocked the Bluegrass with a surprise commitment to his home state Kentucky Wildcats. The four-star guard out of Lyon County picked Kentucky over heavy competition from Cincinnati, Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, and Alabama. Going into Sunday’s ceremony, many believed Perry was headed out of state, likely to another program in the Southeastern Conference. But, Kentucky high school basketball’s all-time leading scorer will instead stay home to be the next homegrown Wildcat. He is Kentucky’s third commitment in the 2024 recruiting class.

“At the end of the day I decided to stay home and play for my home state school,” Perry told On3’s Joe Tipton. “Growing up I played for the West KY Wildcats and now I’m excited to join the Kentucky Wildcats.”

At 11 o’clock today, Perry will call into Kentucky Sports Radio’s morning radio show to discuss his recruitment and his commitment to UK. Perry will join Ryan Lemond and me for a segment to explain how John Calipari convinced him to stay home when the tides were pushing him in another direction and how exciting it is to be a future Wildcat.

Freddie Maggard will also be on today’s show to recap the weekend in football, so tune in from 10 a.m. to noon. Matt Jones returns on Wednesday.

John Calipari previews Kansas

Later today, Kentucky Basketball will fly to Chicago for tomorrow’s game against No. 1 Kansas in the CBS Sports Classic. Before the flight, John Calipari will preview the trip and the game in a press conference on campus.

In that Monday afternoon conversation, we also hope to learn the playing status of Adou Thiero, who missed Friday’s game with a concussion, and the latest on Zvonimir Ivisic, Aaron Bradshaw, and Ugonna Onyenso.

We’ll have a video of that conversation for you here on Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com.

Mark Stoops previews South Carolina

Also on campus later today, Mark Stoops will hold his weekly Monday press conference at Kroger Field to preview Kentucky Football‘s next game. This week, the Wildcats are on the road at unranked South Carolina for a game under those Williams-Brice Stadium lights.

Stoops will be asked for an explanation of some of Kentucky’s mistakes in the 28-point loss to Alabama in Lexington over the weekend.

We’ll have a video of that conversation for you here on Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com.

Stoops can also be heard tonight on his call-in radio show with Tom Leach.

New KSR Football Podcast

Once Stoops is done with his Monday obligations, the KSR Football Podcast will go live to recap all he had to say, plus that debacle at Kroger Field on Saturday. We’ll look ahead to South Carolina, too. I expect Nick Roush and Adam Luckett will have plenty to say about the Gamecocks’ ball coach.

To hear it all, you can find tonight’s live episode of the KSR Football Podcast on KSR’s YouTube channel at 8 p.m. Like, comment, and subscribe to the page if you enjoy the show.

You can find the new episode on KSR’s YouTube when it goes live or consume the audio-only version of KSR’s podcasts on Apple and Spotify.

The Governor’s Cup’s Time and TV Slot

Around Mark Stoops’ Monday press conference, news should break regarding the time and network for this year’s Governor’s Cup between Kentucky and Louisville. That game is less than two weeks and, today, we’ll find out what time the Cats and Cards will kick off the annual rivalry game and how you can find it on your television on Saturday, November 25.

More Recruiting News Incoming

By Wednesday, five-star center Jayden Quaintance will announce his college decision. Quaintance intends to make his commitment to either Kentucky or Missouri by the end of the Early Signing Period. The 6-foot-10 center visited Lexington for Big Blue Madness, and he is a high priority for John Calipari in the 2024 class.

Across campus, the Kentucky Football staff has some coals in a fire that is heating up lately, too.

Kentucky Volleyball Still Winning

Kentucky Volleyball is on fire. Yesterday, the Wildcats swept Georgia in three (25-13, 25-23, 25-20) at Rupp Arena to extend their win streak to 12 consecutive matches.

Hunter Mitchell has KSR’s recap of the match here.

Kentucky Wildcats TV has the video highlights:
