Georgia Tech Shocks Florida State In Dublin! | Andy Staples Instant Reaction | 08.24.24

Florida State was 13-0 heading into Selection Sunday last season. The Seminoles then let everyone know about how the Seminoles were snubbed by the College Football Playoff committee. #FSUTwitter had a personal vendetta against ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit. Head coach Mike Norvell backed out of the Alabama head coach search and this athletic department sued the ACC. FSU was a lot this offseason.

To say many enjoyed what happened on Saturday afternoon across the pond would be an understatement.

Brent Key delivered his sixth outright win as a double-digit dog in his 22 games as Georgia Tech’s head football coach. The Yellow Jackets rolled up 190 rushing yards in the 24-21 game that featured just seven offensive possessions for each team. After getting booed by FSU fans all day in Dublin, I do not think Kirk Herbstreit minded the final result.

Florida State is not out of the College Football Playoff hunt but that defeat throws a lot of cold water on a program that could not stop making noise in the offseason. I hope you were following along at KSBoard as we rode the first college football wave together with the fastest-growing Big Blue Nation community on the internet.

To get the final Sunday in August started, we are now going to take a closer look at everything going on with Kentucky athletics, but man, are we happy to see college football back. Who doesn’t love to run the football?

More High School Football

In Week 1 on the Kentucky high school football circuit, we get two days of action to begin the season before college football takes over on Saturday. Down in Bowling Green, the state’s top team was in action and took care of business.

In the first of two games at the Raffery’s Bowl hosted by WKU, No. 1 Boyle County overpowered No. 20 Lexington Christian Academy in a 35-13 victory. The Rebels jumped out to a 35-6 lead and never looked back.

In the second game at Big Red’s house, No. 3 Frederick Douglass mowed over No. 4 Bowling Green for a 35-13 victory. Douglass came storming back after falling in a 7-0 hole early before storming back to record an impressive road win to begin the season.

“We had a good game plan and our guys just executed,” Frederick Douglass head coach McPeek added. “It’s early in the season and we’ll get better, but I’m just proud of our kids and coaching staff.”

Another Ole Miss vs. Kentucky recruiting battle is brewing

Ole Miss beat Kentucky for three-star offensive tackle Taren Hedick in the 2025 high school cycle. The Wildcats are chasing after top-500 cornerback commit Maison Dunn. Ole Miss is also chasing after a Kentucky cornerback commit.

Cedartown (Ga.) High prospect Demarcus Gardner received a scholarship offer from the Rebels on Saturday.

The three-star prospect flipped from UCF to Kentucky in June but another SEC program officially entered the chat this weekend.

Kentucky women’s soccer is off to a hot start

On Thursday, Kentucky women’s soccer moved to 3-0-0 on the 2024 season after a 2-0 victory over Detroit Mercy. This is the first time in program history that Kentucky opened the first three games of the season with shutout victories. Some big stuff is happening.

KSR has a full recap of the latest win. Kentucky will face undefeated Jacksonville State on Sunday afternoon. The Cats will look to continue this hot start to the season.

One of us? One of us.

Come watch Kentucky football play 4 games with us

Simulated games, that is. Over the last two days over on our YouTube channel, we livestreamed Kentucky’s first eight games of the 2024 season through the new video game, EA Sports College Football 25. It didn’t exactly go as we had planned — the folks at EA must have some beef with the Wildcats. Kentucky opened the season with a close win over Southern Miss before getting drilled by South Carolina in game two. UK put up a much better effort against Georgia after that, but still lost and then needed two overtimes to beat Ohio.

The part II results were much better.

  • Kentucky 24, Ole Miss 21
  • Kentucky 27, Vanderbilt 19
  • Kentucky 24, Florida 17
  • Kentucky 34, Auburn 41

The Wildcats are 5-3 (3-3) entering November. How will the season end? Join us on YouTube at 6:30 p.m. ET for the last four games of the regular season.
