KSR Today: Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
No, this morning post is not dedicated to the Jamie Lee Curtis movie. I don’t remember much about that movie, other than it got a few Oscar noms and Jamie Lee Curtis was in the feature. Maybe she wasn’t. I can’t really remember and there’s not enough time to Google it because everything is happening everywhere all at once around the Big Blue Nation. I know it’s the middle of August, but there’s much to discuss from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Let’s do it to it.
The University of Kentucky is a Disaster
That’s because summer is officially over. Today is the final phase of the “Wildcat Move-In.” Fortunately, the one-day affair has been spaced out, but campus is still a mess. I forgot what it was like to operate when there are cars and ambulances everywhere all at once. It will take some time to adjust, so if you plan on being anywhere near campus in Lexington this week, give yourself some extra time, and then some. You’ll need it.
Kentucky Football Camp is a Grind
When students begin moving onto campus, the Kentucky football team is in the middle of camp malaise. Yesterday it manifested in the most painstakingly obvious manner ever. A handful of players, and even one assistant coach, waited for Liam Coen to conclude his post-practice press conference by lying flat on the ground.
“Just look at these guys. They’re all dead,” Coen said through a smile. “This is camp, man. This is camp. Here it is. That’s the wall. It just hit ’em right there.”
Even though the struggle is real, Kentucky’s offensive coordinator likes how the team has responded to adversity. His offense showed some life after a bad Monday and a so-so scrimmage.
In addition to the scrimmage review, we learned more about the competition at right tackle. The other tackle, Marques Cox, provided a few laughs as well.
Significant Kentucky Football Recruiting Buzz
This is old news if you’re a KSR+ member, but bare with me. Yesterday on KSBoard I shared some intel that Kentucky is making serious headway with Jerod and Jacob Smith, the four-star twins currently enrolled at Corbin, and predicted a flip from Michigan to Kentucky in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Where there is smoke, there is fire. A few more recruiting heavy-hitters joined the fray Tuesday night. Don’t be late to the fold. Join KSR+ as the Cats look to build a little more momentum ahead of the 2023 Kentucky football season.
A Delightful College Football Podcast
Folks, today is one of my favorite days of the year. 11 Personnel is a Kentucky football podcast, but it’s not all Cats all the time. After a brief intro, today we’re deviating from the norm in our annual College Football Win Totals Show.
Adam Luckett and I will be sharing which Futures Wagers we’ll be placing ahead of the season, allowing us to dive deep into teams we believe are trending in the right, or wrong, direction. What makes it even more fun — we’re pretty damn good at making these picks. No one likes a show-boat, but this is why we put in the long hours of research before placing bets, to just barely stay in the green. Join us LIVE at 5 on the KSR YouTube Channel to drink up all the fun.
Jack vs. Jeff
If a little preseason college football pick ’em show doesn’t float your boat, can I interest you in some Kentucky basketball talk? Despite their impressive play across the border in July, Jeff Goodman shared some spicy criticism of John Calipari’s Wildcats. Jack Pilgrim and Shawn Smith took him to task in an enlightening edition of Sources Say. Embrace the debate.
First Day of School
The First Day of School is a touchy subject right now in Jefferson County, but the wheels are still turning elsewhere. Fayette County Public Schools are back in action this am. It’s also the first day I’ll be sending my son to school. Sure, it’s just a preschool, 3-year-old program, but who am I kidding? I’m a little emotional. I spent years roaming the halls of the same 100+ year old school that countless other family members attended. Now he’s got his little uniform on with his lunch packed in his backpack and a new haircut. Before I know it he’s going to moving off to college and I’m going to be complaining about the traffic. Time is fleeting. Cherish every moment, everywhere, all at once.
