These are extremely busy times at KSR HQ after GLOBL Jam kept us up late, only to sleep a couple of hours to get up for a trip to SEC Kickoff. Today, we are saying goodbye to basketball and hello to football as the July calendar turns from Canada to Nashville fun around the Wildcats.

Let’s talk about it.

2023 GLOBL Jam Champs

The United States of America, represented by Kentucky Basketball, won the ultimate GLOBL Jam prize last night, defeating our neighbors from Canada, 89-72, in the gold medal game. The Wildcats won all four exhibition games in Toronto, and Antonio Reeves was the brightest star in all of them as he earned the event’s Most Valuable Player award.

Here are the Wildcats’ cumulative statistics from the 4-0 run against Germany, Canada, BAL Select, and Germany again:

Last night, John Calipari took one last round of questions before the team’s flight home with the gold.

SEC Media Days in Nashville

Now that Kentucky Basketball’s time in Toronto has concluded, we turn our attention toward Nashville, where beginning today, SEC Media Days invades the Music City for the first time. With Kroger’s help, Kentucky Sports Radio is sending five people (Freddie Maggard, Nick Roush, Adam Luckett, videographer Steven Peake, and me) to cover the SEC Kickoff event from start to finish.

You will want to pay the closest attention on Wednesday when Kentucky takes the big stage for questions about the upcoming college football season and more. Mark Stoops, offensive lineman Eli Cox, defensive lineman Octavious Oxendine, and linebacker JJ Weaver will represent the Wildcats in Nashville.

Follow the happenings at the KSR House

For team camaraderie, Kentucky Sports Radio’s five-man team rented a house in Nashville for the four-night stay at SEC Kickoff. The other guys don’t know it yet, but we’re surprising them with bunk-bed rooms so we can podcast in our sleep, if we sleep. The schedule looks busy.

Subscribe to KSR on YouTube for all of the video content from the Music City, from interviews to daily shows and any shenanigans at the house. We touch down later today, full of excitement.

NBA Summer League

Oscar Tshiebwe started for the Indiana Pacers in Las Vegas last night, scoring seven points with six rebounds in a loss.

Cason Wallace scored 13 for the Thunder last night in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Exciting PGA finishes in Scotland and Jessamine County

On the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy made getting up at 5 a.m. worth it to see his thrilling finish at the Scottish Open. McIlroy birdied the last two holes–two challenging holes–in 30+ mph winds to steal the trophy from Robert MacIntyre, a local who almost won his home country’s tournament with this shot.

Meanwhile, in Jessamine County, which is like Scotland, the Barbasol Championship needed extra golf before Vincent Norrman was crowned champion. Norrman, from Sweden, defeated Nathan Kimsey of England on the playoff hole for his first PGA Tour win. Nicholasville went international.

KSR Golf Scramble at Woodson Bend

Kentucky Sports Radio will broadcast live from Woodson Bend Resort at Lake Cumberland, home of KSR’s annual golf scramble in the Somerset area. The golfers will tee off later this afternoon, but first, the show is live from the greenside for two hours of conversations about the ‘Cats.

Tune in at 10 a.m. and buckle up for a lot of SEC Football coverage coming your way here on KentuckySportsRadio.com as soon as we all get to Nashville.
