KSR Today: Introducing 3 New Wildcats and the Pac-12 is Down Bad

It’s a great day to have a great day. The middle of July can often be a slough in the world of Kentucky athletics, but it doesn’t have to be, especially today.
Three new members of the Kentucky basketball team will be taking some time to speak with the media this morning. We’ll hear from Andrew Carr, Otega Oweh, and Ansley Almonor. A day after the Cats spent time working out at Kroger Field, I have a feeling our first conversations with these new Cats will be interesting. Make sure you’re subscribed to the KSR YouTube Channel so you don’t miss a minute of it.
What a Moment from the Pac-12
Before I dive into what else is on the slate for today around Big Blue Nation, I must share with you the sad sights from our friends on the West Coast. If you’re asking yourself, “What is the Pac-12 doing? I thought the conference died,” you’d be somewhat correct.
Almost every member split, except for Oregon State and Washington State. The two stranded members are all that remains, so what are they supposed to do during the start of the traditional talking season?
After the Big 12 took over the site previously used by the Pac-12 to host its media days, Oregon State and Washington State held a small pow-wow with media members who stayed in Las Vegas. The Pac-12 hosted “After Hours with the Beavs & Cougs” in a conference room at the Bellagio.
Commissioner Teresa Gould opened the open-bar event by saying, “We are drinking tonight. If anyone has earned the right to drink, it is the Pac-12.” If that sounds sad, it looks even sadder.
It’s a stark contrast to what happened two days ago at Big 12 Media Days when the mascots gathered like elementary school children to sit criss-cross applesauce for Brett Yormark’s opening remarks.

A New Kentucky Baseball Commit
Simon Gregersen liked his Kentucky Proud Park experience so much, he decided to move to Lexington for the upcoming school year. The Wildcats won the Lexington Regional by defeating Indiana State 5-0 at KPP. Gregersen was the closer for the Sycamores. He had seven saves and 43 strikeouts in a team-high 24 appearances. On Wednesday he shared that he’s transferring to Kentucky.

ISCO Championship Tees Off in Kentucky
Professional golf — it’s happening in Kentucky. The artist formerly known as the Barbasol Championship is now the ISCO Championship. Drew Franklin has everything you need to know about the four-day event at Keene Trace.
Fireworks from the Soccer Pitch
Typically soccer isn’t something that comes up on KSR Today, but there was a LOT of news that came from the sport on Wednesday. First and foremost, Gregg Berhalter is out. It was inevitable when the Copa America host nation fell flat by failing to get out of the group stage. There’s plenty of pressure surrounding this USMNT hire with the World Cup coming to North America in two years.
England defeated Netherlands 2-1 in the Euros to set up a championship matchup with Spain on Sunday. That is not why the Euros are worth discussing. Back in London, football fans received a treat at O2 Arena. Once the final seconds ticked off, The Killers immediately broke into Mr. Brightside. What a celebration.
There was much less celebrating at the Copa America semifinal match in Charlotte. Columbia defeated Uruguay 1-0 and after the match we had a Malice at the Palace situation. Players left the pitch to fight Columbian fans in the stands, creating a chaotic scene. International football fans really are fanatics.
Opening Day at Saratoga
It’s officially summer in upstate New York. Today is opening day at Saratoga Race Course. It’s a beautiful venue and one of the most competitive meets in the sport of horse racing. There are plenty of stakes races scattered around the schedule, but the biggest races for the Breeders’ Cup Classic contenders are the Jim Dandy (July 27) and the Travers Stakes (August 24).
They did Key and Peele Skit
Life has a way of imitating art. Ahead of Team USA’s exhibition against Canada, former President Barack Obama met with the squad and recreated the often memed skit from Key and Peele. Ten years later, it still hits.
