KSR Today: #BeatLouisville Day for Kentucky Baseball, Hunter Dickinson Watch Continues

Good morning, friends. Every day is a good day to be a Kentucky fan, but today especially because the Cats host the Louisville Cardinals tonight at Kentucky Proud Park. Combine that with a very important basketball player wrapping up his official visit and we’ve got plenty to get us through the final Tuesday in April.
We’ll start with baseball, so Ls Down, please.
No. 15 Kentucky Baseball hosts No. 21 Louisville
It was a tough weekend for the Kentucky Baseball team, which lost its third straight series, dropping two of three to Texas A&M at home. The Bat Cats are now 30-9 on the season, 11-7 in SEC play, and on Monday, dropped three spots in the polls to No. 15. Tonight, they’ve got a big opportunity to regain some momentum vs. No. 21 Louisville, the first of seven straight games against ranked opponents.
This marks the first time both the Cats and the Cards have been ranked coming into the game since April 2018. The first meeting between the two teams was scheduled for April 11 at Jim Patterson Stadium, but both sides agreed to postpone in the wake of the mass shooting in downtown Louisville. The Cards have hit a rough patch too, losing six of their last seven, including a sweep by Duke in Durham over the weekend. They’re now 26-13 overall, 8-10 in the ACC.
First pitch of tonight’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The game will air live on SEC Network. The first 500 fans to arrive at Kentucky Proud Park will receive UK-themed sunglasses courtesy of Kentucky Farm Bureau.
Hunter Dickinson wraps up his official visit
Monday came and went without any news regarding Hunter Dickinson, the Michigan transfer who arrived on campus Sunday evening. If you think about it, the fact that zero pictures of the seven-footer walking around have surfaced is kind of impressive in this day and age. The closest we got to an “update” was a cheeky Instagram post from Ellen Calipari, who teased that her husband only took the trash cans down to the street to impress Dickinson.
Dickinson wraps up his visit today, and on Thursday, is scheduled to go to Villanova. We’ll bring you updates as we get them. Considering we found out about Calipari flying to Michigan last week on Dickinson’s “RoundBall Podcast” with Marty Mush, it might come from Dickinson himself. Stay tuned.
ICYMI, CJ Fredrick is headed to Cincinnati
It didn’t take long for CJ Fredrick to find a new home, or rather, an old one. On Monday, Fredrick announced he will continue his college career at Cincinnati, his hometown school. Fredrick entered the transfer portal on Friday after two seasons on Kentucky’s roster. He battled injuries throughout his time in Lexington, and following this season, even considered retiring from the sport altogether. Instead, he’ll head home and give it one more shot.
4-star DL Jerod Smith announces decision
Today, one of Kentucky’s top targets in the 2024 class announces his decision, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it will be the Cats. Michigan is trending for four-star defensive lineman Jerod Smith, one-half of the Smith Twins, Somerset natives who relocated to Connecticut. Smith visited Ann Arbor last month and in the past week, Michigan recruiting insiders EJ Holland and Zach Libby both logged picks for the Wolverines in Smith’s RPM, which is now 72.3% Michigan. The Cats are still in the running for his brother, four-star EDGE Jacob Smith, who included Kentucky in his top six last week.

NBA Playoffs: Four Cats, Three Game Fives
Last night, former Kentucky Wildcats were victorious in the NBA Playoffs as the Miami Heat (Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro) beat the Milwaukee Bucks 119-114 to take a 3-1 lead in the series, and the Los Angeles Lakers (Anthony Davis, Jarred Vanderbilt, Wenyen Gabriel) held off the Memphis Grizzlies 117-111 in overtime to also go up 3-1. Davis finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Vanderbilt put up 15 points and 6 rebounds in just 20 minutes. Bam Adebayo had 15 points for the Heat. Tyler Herro is still out as he recovers from surgery to repair his broken hand.
We got other injury news on Monday when it was revealed that De’Aaron Fox fractured the very tip of the index finger on his left hand in the Kings’ loss to the Warriors on Sunday. He’s doubtful for Game Five on Wednesday night.
Tonight, we’ve got three Game Fives, which could each decide their series:
- 7:30 PM (TNT): Hawks vs. Celtics
- BOS leads series 3-1
- 9:00 PM (NBATV): Timberwolves (Karl-Anthony Towns) vs. Nuggets (Jamal Murray)
- DEN leads series 3-1
- 10:00 PM (TNT): Clippers (Brandon Boston Jr.) vs. Suns (Devin Booker)
- PHX leads series 3-1
Do you have Rick Pitino’s phone number?
Apparently, the cameras caught him giving it to someone during Sunday’s Knicks vs. Cavaliers game, prompting this tweet yesterday afternoon.
Is Rick Pitino likable now? I never thought I’d see the day.
Former Broncos shoutout Frederick Douglass incoming freshmen
Soon-to-be freshmen at Fredrick Douglass High School got a very cool treat on Sunday when former Broncos turned Kentucky Wildcats Jager Burton, Dane Key, and Ty Bryant sent out video messages welcoming them to the family.
I’m surprised Ryan Lemond didn’t send one too. He, Matt Jones, Drew Franklin, and Shannon the Dude will be live on your airwaves starting at 10 a.m. ET. Or, you can turn your radio or streaming device on now to hear the KSR Preshow with Shannon and Billy.
