Good morning from downtown Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the first stop on KSR’s annual summer road trip. Yesterday, Matt Jones, Ryan Lemond, Shannon The Dude and I loaded up the car and made the long drive from Lexington to Pennsylvania for five days of shows here in the Keystone State. We begin today in historic Gettysburg where in 1863 Abraham Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address at the dedication of the National Cemetery during the American Civil War. “Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal,” Lincoln said at the site of one of the war’s decisive battles. Today, we will visit the site to learn more about Gettysburg and its place in American history; but first, Kentucky Sports Radio will be live from downtown from 10 AM to noon.

Team USA won FIBA U17 World Cup gold in Spain

In Spain, some of Kentucky Basketball’s top recruiting targets helped guide the United States to the U17 World Cup championship. Though down five at halftime, the Americans rallied in the second half to win by 12 in the finals.

The top recruit on Kentucky’s big board, DJ Wagner was among the participants in Spain as speculation around his recruitment ramped up here in the States. He is on Commitment Watch this month with the Peach Jam coming up next week. Kentucky really wants to get that one done ASAP.

John Calipari to tour the state beginning tomorrow

Calipari was in Spain to support Wagner and the many other Kentucky targets on Team USA during group stage play last weekend, but he didn’t hang around to see the tournament all the way through because he had to get back to coach his team and to engage with the fan base. Beginning tomorrow, Calipari will hold meet-and-greets at six Kroger locations around the state:

Kentucky Football added its 11th commitment on Sunday

The dice were hot over the weekend as Kentucky added iOL prospect Koby Keenum with a Saturday commitment. In case you missed it, Keenum picked Kentucky over Louisville with a fake-out.

Then on Sunday, Jakob Dixon made it 11 for the Class of 2023 with his commitment to Kentucky. After Dixon made the decision public, the wide receiver from Louisville’s Pleasure Ridge Park spoke highly of Vince Marrow, telling KSR, “He definitely has high expectations for me. He’s a good dude, he’s changed my life basically. I appreciate him a lot.”

Rhyne Howard made her WNBA All-Star Game debut

Also on Sunday, former Kentucky star Rhyne Howard scored 13 points in her rookie debut in the WNBA All-Star Game. She did it on 5-of-9 shooting from the field in 15 minutes off the bench for Team (A’ja) Wilson.

Sports Illustrated gave Howard a B grade for her performance.

Tune in at 10 AM

I’m having Wi-Fi issues here in Gettysburg so let’s end it here while I still can. The radio show is coming up in an hour with a fun week on the road ahead, so tune in.
