KSR Today: Kicking Off Georgia Week

Kentucky Football’s perfect season moves forward another week to the biggest challenge on the schedule: the trip to Athens for a shot at Georgia. Now a battle between the SEC’s only unbeaten teams, the game is bigger than anyone imagined and now one of the biggest ever for the Kentucky program.
It’s No. 1 Georgia and No. 11 Kentucky this coming Saturday in the coveted CBS afternoon time slot with first-place in the SEC on the line.
Let’s start getting you ready for it as Kentucky kicks off Georgia Week.
Watch the replay of Saturday’s game
The SEC Network will re-air Kentucky’s win over LSU three times this week, beginning later this morning. You can catch the Cats’ win at the following times and I recommend at least one viewing:
Monday, Oct. 11: 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 12: 2 a.m.
Friday, Oct. 15: 4 a.m.
Thank you, SEC Network.
Matt Jones, Will Levis to appear on ‘SEC This Morning’
Another reason to watch the SEC Network today, ‘SEC This Morning’ will welcome two Big Blue Nation stars to the show for early morning interviews. Up first, KSR’s own Matt Jones will join the program to talk to Peter Burns and Chris Doering about this uncharted territory for Kentucky Football and its fan base.
Then after Matt pumps the Kentucky excitement into your television, quarterback Will Levis will join Burns and Doering to tell his story from Kentucky’s big win and undefeated season to date. Levis is set to appear at 10:30 a.m. Tune in.
Mark Stoops to speak at noon because it’s Monday
Coming up at noon today, Mark Stoops will hold his seventh Monday press conference of the season to recap Saturday’s win and preview the upcoming trip to Georgia. If you’re unable to follow it live, be sure to come back to Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com later this afternoon for a complete rundown and video of all of Stoops’ comments from the day.
Stoops will take questions on his call-in show Monday night too.
New depth chart update
Shortly before Mark Stoops takes the stand, Kentucky Football will release its new depth chart for Georgia Week. Don’t expect any major surprises in the pecking order, but it should tell the short story of how Kentucky will move forward with a major injury to Octavious Oxendine at the defensive tackle spot.
Kentucky is getting 24.5 points in Athens
According to VegasInsider.com, the trusted source in college football point spreads, Georgia opened as a 24.5-point favorite over Kentucky when the line hit the board Sunday afternoon. From that same source, the line is down to 22.5 after early action on the Wildcats.
The total on the game is 44.5, a low number due to two outstanding defenses.
Kentucky still not a top 10 team
Kentucky will have to beat the No. 1 team in America to crack the AP Top 10 because, apparently, being 6-0 and 4-0 in the SEC isn’t good enough for AP voters. No, the voters ranked Kentucky just outside the top 10 at No. 11, up five spots from a week ago.
The coaches’ poll also slotted Kentucky at 11th.
Ivan Maisel’s Kentucky Football History Lesson
Our On3 colleague Ivan Maisel included a Kentucky history blurb in his new “Daily Briefing” on college football matters.
A Kentucky history lesson
So you may have read that Kentucky is 6-0 for the first time since 1950. What that note doesn’t tell you is those Wildcats were the first great team coached by a 37-year-old Navy veteran named Bear Bryant. Kentucky raced to a 10-0 record and a No. 3 ranking before losing its regular-season finale 7-0 at No. 9 Tennessee. Kentucky went on to upset No. 1 Oklahoma 13-7 in the Orange Bowl. You want to know why Bryant put such great stock in beating Tennessee during his time at Alabama? He went 0-5-2 vs. Vols coaching legend Gen. Robert Neyland at Kentucky. In fact, from 1948-51 — four games — Bryant’s teams did not score.
Both ‘College Gameday’ and ‘SEC Nation’ are going to Athens
The pregame scene will be crowded at Georgia as ESPN and the SEC Network are both taking their Saturday college football shows to the same location for only the third time ever.

The KSR Pregame Show is going to Athens too
Not just for the big TV shows, the KSR Pregame Show is working out logistics to take the show to Georgia this weekend. Let us know if you’ll be there and stay tuned to see where we end up.
Can’t wait.
KSR Football Podcast will drop a new episode tonight
Nick Roush, Freddie Maggard, Charles Walker, and I owe the people a good episode of the KSR Football Podcast after last week’s show sounded like it was recorded in a tin can. That’s our bad. Technical difficulties are our thing.
But this week we’re back at the same time with equipment that works, we think, and we’re excited to talk Cats and Tigers/Cats and Dawgs for Kentucky Football fans. Look for the new episode later tonight.
I didn’t forget about Kentucky Basketball’s Pro Day.
But I didn’t watch it either. (I’m sorry I was busy and worn out from Saturday, OKAY.) KSR’s own Jack Pilgrim watched it though and he put his thoughts to paper last night for anyone interested in a Pro Day recap.
Calipari’s comments on Kellan Grady and the injury updates are what I found most interesting from my Pro Day reading.
Big Blue Madness is this Friday
Monday MLB Playoff quadruple-header
We have an MLB Playoff quadruple-header today beginning with the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the NLDS. Tied at 1-1, those teams meet at 1:07 p.m. on TBS from Atlanta. Go Braves.
The day’s second MLB game takes us to Chicago where the Houston Astros will try to close out the best-of-5 against the White Sox. Then tonight, the Tampa Rays face elimination in Boston, followed by the Dodgers-Giants nightcap in Game 3 of that NLDS series.
Here are last night’s results, if you missed them:
ALDS, Game 3: Red Sox 6, Rays 4 (BOS leads 2-1)
ALDS, Game 3: White Sox 12, Astros 6 (HOU leads 2-1)
