Good morning, folks! Happy Thursday! We are now just TWO days away from the start of the 2021 college football season. While our Kentucky Wildcats won’t debut until next Saturday, there are still some matchups that will be worth checking out as you gear up for the following weekend.

Let’s get right into the news and notes you need to know for the day.

Kentucky football to require masks indoors, no proof of vaccine

Kentucky football has released its game day protocols and procedures for the upcoming season, including updates on mask and COVID-19 vaccine requirements.

Among other key highlights, Kroger Field will require vaccinated fans to wear masks at all indoor locations, but not outdoors in their seats or in the concourse. Unvaccinated fans will be required to wear masks both indoors and outdoors. All fans will be strongly encouraged to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, while not actively eating or drinking.

Beyond mask recommendations, fans will not be required to show proof of vaccination to enter Kroger Field, though CDC guidelines state unvaccinated fans should wear a mask at all times when around others.

As for other game-day festivities, UK Athletics anticipates tailgating, the Chevy Catwalk, bands, cheerleaders, and all of your other favorite traditions to return in 2021.

Updated Kroger KSR Game of the Week

Change of plans.

KSR will still head down Clays Mills Road Friday night but the Knights will have a new opponent.  Instead of playing Johnson Central as originally scheduled, Lexington Catholic will take on the Pulaski County Maroons.  Kickoff is set for 8:45 p.m. at Lexington Catholic.

We’ll have several KSR employees there to keep you updated.

Big Dog barks back

Vince Marrow is never shy when it comes to dealing with Twitter beef, and the Big Dog was never going to back down from a little spat with a former Florida Gator.

During a radio appearance on 1010 XL, Shane Matthews, who was the starting quarterback at Florida under then-head coach Steve Spurrier from 1990-92, decided to take some shots at the Kentucky Football offense.

“Kentucky is getting all this love, somehow. Seems like they get all this love every year,” Matthew said on the Jacksonville, FL-based radio show. “Until they can complete a forward pass, I have a hard time looking at Kentucky as a team that can beat us. But we’ve had trouble there the last couple of times.”

KSR’s Matt Jones made sure that Marrow saw the tweet, and as you might have guessed, this didn’t exactly sit right with the Big Dog.

Meade County the Musical

No, this isn’t a Broadway adaptation. One high school in Kentucky is dealing with a cat infestation unlike any theatre play.

According to Julie Dolan of WLKY in LouisvilleMeade County High School is dealing with a small group of students who are dressing up and acting like cats while at school. Yes, CATS. The Meade County superintendent told WLKY that the situation is being addressed, but a grandparent paints a different picture: this has apparently been happening since last school year.

“Apparently, from what I understand, they’re called ‘furries,’” an anonymous grandmother told WLKY. “They identify with animals. These people will hiss at you or scratch at you if they don’t like something you’re doing.

“I was hearing rumblings of this last year, but it really got bad when they went back to school this year. I have two grandkids in school and my grandkids didn’t want to go to school anymore.”

There are so many unanswered questions…

Introducing…. the Pin It Deep podcast

There’s a new podcast in town. On Wednesday, KSR unveiled Pin It Deep with Max Duffy and Miles Butler.

Each week throughout the Kentucky football season, these two former specialists will share stories from their careers and discuss Wildcat wins and losses by interviewing current players. In the first episode, Max and Miles are joined by Super Senior center Luke Fortner. Highlights:

  • What they miss most from playing college football.
  • Their outlook on Kentucky’s season in 2021.
  • Why Mark Stoops would be a terrible college professor.
  • “True or not true”
  • Will Levis is a maniac.
  • What happens when Stoops doesn’t get his coffee at camp.
  • The best potential NIL deals for Kentucky players.

Before the podcast gets a feed of its own, you can listen to Pin it Deep by subscribing to Kentucky Sports Radio on Apple Podcasts. You can also stream all of the action on Spotify.
