How about that big announcement earlier? We’ve been keeping that secret for a while and it’s an exciting day at KSR headquarters as we launch–although, we wish it came during happier times. Georgia? Really?
In case you missed it, I am of course talking about the new KSR+ website and accompanying message board, our new sister site with bonus coverage beyond what we do and will continue to do here on the OG KSR for the price of your friendship. KSR+ is a premium site, but you can try it on for a summer at only ten dollars until next fall. When you do, you will access stories from the new teammate in the KSR locker room, Jacob Polacheck, who will put a stronger emphasis on recruiting and longer-form stories, profiles, and game breakdowns that we sometimes don’t have the hours in the day to do. KSR football beat writer Adam Luckett will also spend some of his work hours writing thorough football content for the armchair quarterbacks who really like to get in the mud and the film room with game analysis.
Here where you are, KentuckySportsRadio.com will remain exactly the same minus the afternoons Luckett moves down the hall to his KSR+ cubicle. Nothing you get here is going there or going away. We said long ago this little basement blog will forever be a free site and that’s still in the mission statement somewhere in the trunk of Matt’s car.
But if you’re up for extra content around the Cats and want to spill or sip some tea in the message board (we finally got one!), you can read more about it in Tyler’s early-morning announcement or go ahead and get signed up now with our launch special of ten American dollars until football season. That’s launch special, not lunch special. You’re already hungry?
Anyway, onto our regular Monday morning conversation I look forward to each week…
Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs
Super Bowl LVII between the Chiefs and Eagles gave the world a thrilling (and controversial) finish as the Chiefs erased the Eagles’ lead to win the game on a field goal in the final seconds. A questionable third-down holding call on Philly’s defense moved KC even closer into field goal range in the red zone and forced the Eagles to burn its timeouts in order to have any time on the clock for a miracle. If not for the penalty, two timeouts and over a minute of football would’ve given Jalen Hurts a fighting chance. But, that’s football and there were other costly mistakes Philly can point to on film when dissecting went wrong.
Final score: Kansas City 38, Philadelphia 35. Pat Mahomes is your MVP.

We will hear from John Calipari on his call-in show
Later tonight, John Calipari will sit down with Tom Leach for his weekly radio show’s broadcast, likely to a large listening audience as the fan base awaits further explanation of Kentucky’s latest disappointment. By its 6 p.m. start, Calipari will have had 48 hours to recover from the trip to Georgia and to formulate a comforting message to the Big Blue Nation. We will soon find out what that message is and the latest on his team as the Wildcats prepare to turn around and board another plane tomorrow for Starkville, Mississippi.
We will have a recap of Calipari’s comments here on KSR for anyone unable or unwilling to listen.
Kentucky will soon be unranked in the polls for a seventh straight week
A reminder, Kentucky was ranked fourth in the preseason poll with 10/1 odds to win the national championship.
The Wildcats ranked 46h in the NET
Over in the NCAA’s own NET rankings, Kentucky dropped to No. 46 in college basketball since the loss at Georgia. Saturday’s dud was the first Quad 2 loss (away vs. RPI 76–135) for Kentucky, meaning the Cats now have as many Quad 2 and Quad 4 losses as Quad 1 wins.
KSR’s Monday morning look at UK’s tournament sheet will be online a bit later this morning with a more in-depth breakdown of the resume.

Kentucky Women’s Basketball plays Ole Miss tonight in the SEC Monday Night feature game
Kentucky’s women’s team is in Oxford, Mississippi to play Ole Miss tonight and you can cheer the Wildcats on from home because it’s the feature Monday game on SEC Network. UK is hoping to land a third in-conference win to break a tie with Vanderbilt at second-to-last in the league and gain some momentum heading into conference tournament play in three weeks. With only five games left on the schedule, the window is closing on a Wednesday bye in Greenville.
Tip-off is at 7 p.m. ET.
Joe B. Hall and Kentucky’s 1978 championship featured in third episode of “Southern Hoops” series tonight
Immediately after Kentucky-Ole Miss, SEC Network will air the third episode of “Southern Hoops: A History of SEC Basketball,” a seven-part documentary about the league that means more. Part 3 of the series will feature the SEC in the 1970s, including the changing of the guard from Adolph Rupp to Joe B. Hall and then Hall’s 1978 national championship six years later.

UK Softball got hosed against Texas on Sunday
Down in Clearwater, Florida, Kentucky Softball had control of its game against Texas until a silly rule called the game a tie. The Wildcats scored seven unanswered runs in the last three innings to go up on the Longhorns, 7-4, only for the game to be called a drop-dead tie due to time constraints with one out to go in the gam.
The final score in the book reads 4-4 and UK is home without a win over the sixth-ranked team in the country.
Kentucky Men’s Tennis still undefeated
Also on Sunday, Kentucky Men’s Tennis beat Duke, 4-3, on Kentucky’s campus by winning four straight points in singles competition. Now the No. 2-ranked Wildcats are 10-0 in the 2023 season.
Coming up on the KSR’s morning radio show…
Ryan Lemond and I will recap the loss to Georgia and all that came with it. Today was originally going to be a day off for the four of us, but we can’t step away after what transpired over the weekend. Unfortunately, Matt Jones is in Mexico and unable to join us until Wednesday.
With Matt away, there will be plenty of air time to hear from the listeners so give us a call and we’ll let you air it all out. Well, not all of it.
I’ll talk to you over on the new KSR+ message board too.
