Good morning, friends. Do you want the good news or the bad news? Good news first. You’re halfway through the week, always a plus. Bad news: it’s gonna be another scorcher. Yesterday, the temperature in Lexington reached 95 degrees, breaking the previous record of 94 back in 1988. Today, temperatures are forecasted to go even higher, 97 degrees with heat indices in the low 100s. Ouch. Thankfully, relief is in sight this weekend. Until then, it’s just you, me, and the air conditioner. You got this, AC.

Hot weather or not, the news never stops. Here’s what’s happening in the UK sports world today.

The media meets K.T. Turner

Kentucky made the news that K.T. Turner is joining the coaching staff official last week and today, he’ll sit down with local reporters for the first time. Check the site late this afternoon for all the highlights from our conversation with Turner, who served as associate head coach at Oklahoma, Texas, and SMU before coming to Lexington. Turner and John Calipari spoke glowingly of each other in the press release last week, so it’ll be good to get some face time with the man Cal’s been waiting to add to his staff for some time.

2023 5-star forward Ron Holland wraps up official visit

The first bit of basketball recruiting news involves a current visitor on Kentucky’s campus. Five-star forward Ron Holland wraps up his official visit today and, if all goes well, could leave town with a scholarship offer. The 6’8″ Duncanville, Texas native is the No. 12 overall player in the 2023 class in On3’s recently updated player rankings. He took an official visit to Arkansas last weekend. The Cats and the Hogs are in his top eight, along with UCLAHoustonAuburnTexasMemphis, and the NBA’s G-League.

Coaches can now contact 2024 recruits

The second piece of basketball recruiting news pertains to the 2024 class. Starting at 12:01 a.m. this morning, college coaches were allowed to contact rising juniors directly, meaning the phones of 16-year-old basketball players across the country were lighting up all night. We’ll find out who John Calipari and his staff reached out to over the coming days; yesterday, Jack Pilgrim shared his predictions on who would get the first calls and texts.

Aaron Bradshaw in Blue > Aaron Bradshaw in Red

After checking out Kentucky’s campus over the weekend, seven-foot five-star center Aaron Bradshaw made the short trip down I-64 to see Louisville’s facilities. Thank goodness the Cats are getting new uniforms this fall because I hate how much better Louisville’s are than our current ones.

Final Kentucky Football camp of the summer

The 2022 Kentucky Football summer camp series comes to an end today. Prospective recruits from the Bluegrass and beyond will converge on the Joe Craft Football Training Facility for the final one-day camp, including PRP wideout Jakob Davis and 2023 defensive back Jaremiah Anglin. Yesterday’s camp didn’t provide many highlights, but we’re sending Zack Geoghegan back out into the sauna today in hopes of getting some scoop. If you’re still wondering what happens at these camps (same, honestly), Nick Roush gave us the lowdown yesterday.

Captain Suntan wrote the Tom Jurich email

Remember the movement to get Tom Jurich rehired at Louisville, specifically the typo-ridden email a group of boosters sent UofL President Lori Stewart Gonzalez? As suspected, John Ramsey, aka Captain Suntan, was the one who sent it.

The University of Louisville never ceases to entertain.

All our love to Mike Pratt

On a much more serious note, I’ll end the morning post with a message about our friend, Mike Pratt. The former Kentucky great and UK Sports Network color analyst is battling cancer and could use the support of the BBN. Pratt’s Hope4cancer treatments are scheduled to begin tomorrow but it’s been a rough week. You won’t find a kinder person than Mike, and I know you’ll join me in sending all of the love, prayers, and positive thoughts to him and his family as they navigate this difficult time.
