Good morning, folks! Abby Steiner is a collegiate national champion and Kentucky Football wraps up arguably the most important weekend of the offseason so far. Let’s dive right into everything you need to know in order to get your Sunday rolling.

Abby Steiner breaks more records

Kentucky track and field star Abby Steiner is a new record-holder, shattering the women’s 200-meter collegiate record with a time of 21.80 seconds at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Steiner previously tied the NCAA Championships 200-meter record with a qualifying time of 22.05 seconds, a personal best at the time, before breaking the record to earn the title on Saturday.

“I don’t think it’s sunk in yet,” Steiner said after the race.

Steiner also qualified for the 100-meter final with a sub-11-second semifinal time before earning bronze on Saturday, finishing with a time of 11.08 seconds (+0.2). A participant in the 4x100M relay, she also earned silver alongside Shadajah Ballard, Masai Russell, and Karimah Davis with a time of 42.55, giving her three medals on the day.

Official visit weekend comes to a close

A massive weekend of official visitors for Kentucky Football will come to a close today. By our count, at least a dozen notable prospects were in Lexington over the weekend for official visits, including a trio of four-star recruits in WR Karmello English, CB Robert Stafford, and S Avery Stuart. Four current commits are also a part of the OV weekend. There were plenty of talented unofficial visitors coming in and out of the program, too. Hopefully, Kentucky was able to lock in a few of these recruits to begin loading up the 2023 class. We’ll likely find out sooner rather than later.

A full list and breakdown of the official visitors can be found by clicking the link here.

In semi-related news, while on his official visit to UK, Karmello English announced that he has a commitment date: July 2. Kentucky, as of now, is the only official visit that the four-star wideout has scheduled. Alabama and Auburn are seen as the top competition for the Wildcats in this recruitment. English is the No. 130 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus.

Today also marks another big camp day at the practice facilities. Plenty of big-name recruits are expected in Lexington tonight to participate in the Sunday Showcase Camp. Following registration, it should begin around 5:00 p.m. EST. I’ll be there to catch all the action, so stay tuned for plenty of content coming from that.

On the basketball side of things, 7-foot-1 four-star center Aaron Bradshaw will wrap up his official visit to Kentucky today. High school and AAU teammates with DJ Wagner, Bradshaw’s stock has exploded over recent months and he’s widely viewed as a consensus top 20 recruit in the ’23 class. Locking him down, regardless of what happens with Wagner, would be a massive addition to the next batch of future Wildcats.

Jacob Grandison lands with Duke

Illinois transfer Jacob Grandison will not be a Kentucky Wildcat. Instead, the 6-foot-6 wing will be joining the Duke Blue Devils.

“It became clear that I fit with the vision that Coach Scheyer has for Duke basketball,” Grandison told On3. ”I’m an elite passer to anyone. I’m a shooter and I space the floor. I am an elite cutter and I’ve proven myself to be a great decision maker. I’m poised under pressure and I play to win. Duke is winning.”

Grandison previously considered Kentucky, USC, BYU, UCLA, DePaul, Arizona, Iowa State, Michigan, and Oregon before choosing Duke on Saturday. He took an official visit to Durham this week. By all accounts, it appears that UK’s roster for the 2022-23 season is locked in.

St. X wins 9th state baseball title; Softball championship decided today

For the ninth time in program history, the St. Xavier Tigers have won the KHSAA state baseball tournament. St. X breezed through the championship round on Saturday night at Kentucky Proud Park, cruising to an 11-1 victory over Russell County. The Tigers have not lost a state tournament game since 2014 (16-0).

On the softball side, the 2022 state title will be decided later today at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington between Lexington Catholic (30-6) and undefeated Ballard (38-0). Lex Cath took down McCracken County (34-2) in the semifinals on Friday 6-1 while Ballard shut out South Warren (38-2) by a final score of 11-0. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EST.

Mo Donegal wins Belmont Stakes

There was no possibility for a Triple Crown winner this year, but the Belmont Stakes still brought plenty of excitement to the track. Mo Donegal, the pre-race betting favorite, won the 154th Belmont Stakes as the third leg of the Triple Crown took place early Saturday evening at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. Going off the board at 5/2 odds, jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. rode the three-year-old thoroughbred to a win for trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Mike Repole.

That’s all the news and notes I have for you this morning. Now go sit poolside and sip on a drink with a bunch of fruit in it, please.
