There isn’t a lot on tap for this last Monday of June but the weekend was a busy one, beginning with Friday’s KSR Golf Scramble, a Kentucky Basketball commitment from a five-star point guard, and conversations with Chris Livingston and Daimion Collins.

Yesterday was a big day for championships (our friends JT Poston and Aaron Flener got close to one on the PGA TOUR) plus it was a special day at KSR HQ as Mrs. Tyler Thompson celebrated a Sunday birthday in Nashville. Happy belated, Tyler!

Now for more on those Sunday championships and all you missed, and some of what’s ahead.

Ole Miss won the College World Series

A month ago, Ole Miss Baseball was on the bubble after losing on Tuesday of the SEC Tournament down in Hoover. Some even say Ole Miss took Kentucky’s spot in the NCAA Tournament field when the Rebels earned a bid on Selection Monday.

Then yesterday, Ole Miss won the whole damn thing with a sweep of Oklahoma in the College World Series final. The last team to make the bracket won 10-3 on Saturday and 4-2 on Sunday to win the school’s first baseball championship and another for the Southeastern Conference.

Make it three straight for the SEC in Omaha and eight in total since 2009. The other Mississippi school won last year.

(Related: Tennessee did not win, and has not won.)

Colorado won the Stanley Cup

Congratulations, Colorado. It feels like the NHL Playoffs lasted nine months.

Abby Steiner is a U.S. Champion

Another Sunday title, Kentucky Track & Field superstar Abby Steiner added to her resume by winning the U.S. 200-meter dash title at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships. In Steiner’s first USATF outdoor championship, she ran a personal-best 21.77 in the 200M, the sixth-fastest time in U.S. history.

Fellow Wildcat Daniel Roberts was also victorious in Eugene with his win in the 100-meter hurdles.

KSR’s Kroger Hometown Community Tour debuted

Freddie Maggard kicked off KSR’s Kroger Hometown Community Tour with a stop at Franklin County High School for conversations with Kaden Moorman, a Kentucky Football commit; linebacker Peyton Ledford; and head coach Eddie James.

Hear from the Flyers below and keep following Freddie and KSR’s Kroger Hometown Community Tour all summer.

ICYMI: Travis Perry got his offer

This one’s about 48 hours old but still very important: Western KY urban legend Travis Perry earned his scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky. Perry really caught the eye of the Kentucky staff two weekends ago with his stellar play with Lyon County at the Titans-Rockets Shootout in Shelbyville, then this past weekend he traveled from Eddyville to Lexington for an unofficial visit to Kentucky. While on campus, Perry announced John Calipari had seen enough to extend the scholarship offer.

Perry is in the Class of 2024, currently unranked by On3 but not for long.

KSR is without Matt Jones today

Matt Jones has the week off for vacation so Ryan Lemond, Shannon The Dude, and I are holding down the fort this week on the show. There are some special guests lined up for later in the week, but today it’s the regular gang minus Matt for two hours. Tune in at 10 AM and Go Cats.
