Super Bowl LVIII gave us a thriller on Sunday as Patrick Mahomes did that Patrick Mahomes thing he does, this time in overtime. In 49ers red and gold, Kyle Shannan did the thing he does, blowing a double-digit lead in the Super Bowl for a third time. The night also had its entertaining commercials, from Michael Cera pushing lotion to something called Temu, and a halftime performance tailored around my teenage and college years. I’m singing along to Usher all day long.

In the Big Blue Nation, we got it bad as Kentucky Basketball faces a four-game home losing streak tomorrow night in a 9 p.m. contest against Ole Miss. We’ll spend today previewing that game. Before we do, congratulations are in order.

Mike Edwards and Darian Kinnard – Super Bowl Champions

A couple of former Kentucky Wildcats will get championship rings. For safety Mike Edwards, the Super Bowl championship is his second, but first in Kansas City. Edwards won his first Super Bowl ring in Tampa Bay in his second NFL season. The former Wildcat intercepted Drew Brees in the NFC Championship game to help the Bucs get there. Last night, he was third on the team in tackles with one pass breakup as the Chiefs’ starting safety.

Edwards’ old Kentucky teammate, Darian Kinnard, also gets a second Super Bowl ring. Kinnard was drafted by Kansas City in the 2022 NFL Draft, so he is a back-to-back champion with the Chiefs. A practice squad player this season, Kinnard has two rings and six career snaps.

Orlando Antigua’s Monday Press Conference

Kentucky Basketball is in a bad spot, to say the least. You don’t need me to remind you how down it is at the moment. Plenty of stats and historically alarming trends are circling the internet around this three-game home losing streak at Rupp Arena and a stretch of four losses in six games. That’s not the Gold Standard, nor is it even Silver or Bronze.

So, with that in mind, the program will send Orlando Antigua, an assistant coach, to face the questions at Monday’s press conference on campus. Antigua will continue the tradition of John Calipari not doing weekly press conferences so he can close the book on Saturday’s loss to Gonzaga and preview tomorrow’s critical home game against Ole Miss.

John Calipari’s Call-In Radio Show

After Antigua faces the media’s questioning, John Calipari will sit down with Tom Leach for Calipari’s weekly call-in radio show tonight. The UK HealthCare John Calipari Show is scheduled for a 6 p.m. broadcast on the UK Sports Network, hopefully with further explanation of why Kentucky is struggling and what Calipari is doing to fix the ongoing problems. Fans hope to hear updates regarding the health of Tre Mitchell and DJ Wagner, too.

College Basketball’s New Top 25

We may not see Kentucky in the new college basketball rankings when they are released later this afternoon. Kentucky is currently ranked No. 17/15 in the AP/Coaches polls. However, the Wildcats’ home loss to Gonzaga will push them further away from a high ranking, maybe even outside the polls.

Listen: Matt Jones’ Postgame Show Monologue

Like everyone else in the Big Blue Nation, Matt Jones was disappointed on Saturday night. He opened the KSR Postgame Show with yet another must-hear monologue about how he sees the current state of Kentucky Basketball and what is next for the program and its head coach.

5 Straight Losses For Kentucky Women’s Basketball

Kentucky Women’s Basketball added one more to Rupp Arena’s losing streak. On Sunday, the Wildcats lost their fifth straight game this season, falling to Texas A&M in downtown Lexington. Kentucky scored 44 points in the 17-point loss to drop to 2-8 in league play, a half-game out of dead last.

College Basketball On TV

A couple of Kentucky’s blue-blooded rivals headline tonight’s college basketball action, part of an ESPN doubleheader beginning at 7 p.m. First, ninth-ranked Duke hosts Wake Forest in Cameron Indoor Stadium as a 7.5-point favorite. Wake Forest is playing to tie Duke in the ACC standings with four losses.

Then, in Game 2, fourth-ranked Kansas travels to Lubbock, Texas, to play No. 23 Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are laying 2.5 points to the Jayhawks with intentions of passing them in the Big 12 standings.

Offensive Coordinator Watch

You didn’t think I’d forget Kentucky Football‘s ongoing O.C. search, did you? The Wildcats have reportedly honed in on Bush Hamdan, a 38-year-old journeyman with limited coordinator experience. He was last seen at Boise State in 2023, but Mark Stoops has eyes on Hamdan as Liam Coen’s replacement in Lexington. Learn more about Hamdan here while we watch the newswire.

We have to discuss what the heck happened at Rupp Arena on Saturday and why one of BBN’s favorite teams is going in the wrong direction in February.
