KSR Today: The One Where Oscar Holds A Baby
Good morning, friends. If you’ve noticed fewer stories from me this week, it’s because I’ve been working on a big project I hope to share with you this afternoon. What do Bam Adebayo, Tim Couch, Will Levis, Mark Stoops, Jacob Toppin, Lance Ware, Tom Hart, and Isaac Humphries all have in common? I talked to each one over the past two weeks, so you’re about to find out. I hope you like it, especially the person who wrote in the comments yesterday that sharing July Bracketology is beneath me. While I don’t disagree, we gotta pay the bills somehow.
With that in mind, let’s go through today’s rundown.
John Calipari’s Autograph Tour heads to London
Yesterday, a massive crowd of fans met John Calipari at the LaGrange Kroger in Louisville for the first stop of his statewide tornado relief autograph tour. Orlando Antigua, Oscar Tshiebwe, Lance Ware, and Adou Thiero joined Cal as he signed autographs for fans and collected donations for victims of the Western Kentucky tornadoes. Today, Calipari heads east to London, where he’ll be signing autographs and taking pictures with fans at Kroger (1732 West Highway 192) from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. If you go, make sure to sign his Joe B. Hall Tribute Program, which Cal will carry with him all season:
Here is Calipari’s tour schedule for the rest of the week:
Thursday, July 14: Georgetown
- Kroger 106 Marketplace Circle
- Georgetown, Ky 40324
- 1:00pm – 2:30pm
Friday, July 15: Somerset
- Kroger 50 Stonegate Center
- Somerset, Ky 42501
- 1:00pm – 2:30pm
Saturday, July 16: Morehead
- Kroger 300 Kroger Center
- Morehead, Ky 40351
- 12:00pm – 1:30pm
More Calipari headlines from Tuesday
In between all those autographs and pictures, Calipari gave us some news too. Early Tuesday on an appearance on Kentucky Roll Call, he said he fully intends to honor his lifetime contract, which runs through 2029. (Worth noting, beginning in the 2024-25 season, he can step down to become a “special assistant to the athletic director/university representative” that pays $950,000 annually.)
“I’ve been here a long time for a coach at one place and I’m going to live out this contract. I’ve committed to it and I’m going to do it,” he said. “We want to say, let’s take this thing to another level and let’s just keep going.”
On KRC, at the team’s community service event at Pillar in Oldham County, and the signing at the LaGrange Kroger, Calipari said he loves what he’s seeing from the team so far in practice and can’t wait for the Bahamas trip. He also gave the green light to Oscar Tshiebwe adding a three-point shot to his arsenal.
“He’s been shooting threes, handling the ball better,” Cal said of Oscar. “So now, you see him bouncing the ball, you see him shoot the ball, he’s improved.”
“I’m not going for like five (3-pointers), no, I just need one or two,” Tshiebwe told reporters. “But if I keep making them, then I’ll keep shooting them. If I miss, I’ll go back to doing what I do.”

Can we talk about how much fish Dr. Mike and his friends caught in Alaska?
Dr. Mike, beloved Lexington physician and KSR’s photographer, is on his annual fishing trip to Alaska and keeps torturing us with pictures of his bounty. Just look at what the group caught in one day this week:
Next time we’re in Lexington, dinner at your place, Dr. Mike.

The KSR Pennsylvania Road Trip is in Pottsville this morning, the home of Yuengling. Tune in to hear about their trip to Hershey and the Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett concert last night. Based on the videos they put out on Twitter, it rocked.
