KSR Today: Peach Jam rolls on; recapping Kentucky's SEC Media Day

Good morning, folks! Wednesday sure was a busy one, eh? KSR was pumping out quality content all day as Kentucky football’s SEC Media Day coincided with the midway point of the 2022 Nike Peach Jam, which allowed college coaches to roam the sidelines beginning at noon. For a random day in the middle of July, there was a ton to talk about. Today should be much of the same, too.
Kentucky assistants Chin Coleman and KT Turner were in North Augusta, SC on Wednesday and will return again on Thursday. The two checked in on the likes of Robert Dillingham, Justin Edwards, DJ Wagner, Aaron Bradshaw, and a bunch of others on their first day on the road. Head coach John Calipari expects to make the trip on Friday once the official visit with ’23 five-star center Ugonna Kingsley (who is a possible reclass candidate…) is all wrapped up.
But SEC Media Day is just as noteworthy. We heard from a Wildcat quartet of head coach Mark Stoops, quarterback Will Levis, offensive lineman Kenneth Horsey, and linebacker DeAndre Square on Wednesday. They had plenty to say during their media appearances, too.
Let’s dive right into the news and notes you need to start your day off on the right foot.
Peach Jam hits the halfway point
It’s been some great fun down here in North Augusta this week, but Wednesday was my final day for the Peach Jam. By the time this post goes live, I’ll have hopefully been on the road back to Lexington for an hour or so. Which means you’ll want to be paying extra close attention to Jack Pilgrim, who is taking over Peach Jam coverage until its conclusion on Sunday.
We’ve reached the midway point of the event with tournament play just over the horizon. Thursday is the final day of pool play games before the bracket portion begins. Below is a Kentucky fan’s guide to everything happening later today. A live stream link for all games is available here.
5:00 PM | Team Durant (KJ Evans) vs. Mokan Elite (John Bol)
5:00 PM | All Ohio vs. NY Rens (Nassir Cunningham)

Kentucky football SEC Media Day roundup
While Jack and I were in North Augusta, KSR’s Nick Roush and Freddie Maggard weren’t too far away in Atlanta for Kentucky football’s SEC Media Day. As mentioned above, Stoops, Levis, Horsey, and Square all answered questions from the media to talk about the upcoming season and what’s been going on within the program during the offseason.
As you might have expected, we’ve got plenty of content from everything that went down on Wednesday (and boy was there a lot…). Stoops (sort of) provided an update on running back Chris Rodriguez Jr., Levis drank more coffee with mayonnaise as his creamer, and freshman wide receiver Dane Key was revealed as a starter — among a multitude of other topics.

Goose Givens joining Tom Leach in the booth
Kentucky men’s basketball Hall of Famer Jack “Goose” Givens is teaming up with Tom Leach later this summer. Givens will join Leach on the radio call on 630 WLAP and the UK Sports Network, filling the spot left by the late, great Mike Pratt. Pratt passed away last month after a long battle with cancer. He served as Kentucky’s radio color analyst for over 20 years.
Givens joined the UK Sports Network ahead of the 2020-21 season as Dave “Buzz” Baker’s co-host on the Don Franklin Countdown to Tipoff pregame show. As a player, Givens led the Cats to the 1978 national championship, scoring 41 points in the win over Duke and earning Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors.
In case you missed it, here are the tip times for Kentucky’s four games in the Bahamas next month.
Wednesday, August 10: 7:00 p.m. EST vs. Dominican Republic U22 National Team
Thursday, August 11: 7:00 p.m. EST vs. Monterey Tech (Mexico)
Saturday, August 13: 6:00 p.m. EST vs. Carleton University (Canada)
Sunday, August 14: 12:00 p.m. EST vs. Bahamas National Team
That’s all that I’ve got for you this morning. Please wish me luck on my dull, 7.5-hour drive back to Lexington. I’ll be filling at least two of those hours with Matt Jones and the crew starting at 10:00 a.m. EST.
