Good morning, folks! Big shoutout to our friends over at Jeff Ruby’s. We’ve got another Men’s Basketball game on Friday with Football’s Senior Day on Saturday. Men’s Soccer will host the second round of the NCAA Soccer Championship on Sunday. A young man by the name of Reed Sheppard is also announcing his college decision Saturday morning.

This morning, we’ll hear from Kentucky WBB head coach Kyra Elzy, MBB head coach John Calipari, and men’s soccer head coach Johan Cedergren as they all hold interviews at Memorial Coliseum.

Now let’s prepare for another Thursday in the world of Kentucky sports.

Oscar Tshiebwe: NPOY?

Kentucky is off to a 2-1 start to begin the 2021-22 college basketball season, and junior big Oscar Tshiebwe is the main reason why. The former top-25 recruit out of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is doing some big things.

The West Virginia transfer leads the Wildcats in scoring (18.3), rebounds (18.7), blocks (2.7), and minutes (30.3). Tshiebwe is making a major impact and is changing the way some in the Big Blue Nation look at box scores.

However, the junior is also making a big splash nationally. The former McDonald’s All-American has been one of the best players in the country, according to KenPom. Tshiebwe is ranked fifth in KenPom’s National Player of the Year standings through three games this season.

A look back at the win over Vandy

Finally, a game worth celebrating in cinematic form.

“For The Team” returns this week from a short break to take you back to Kentucky Football’s win at Vanderbilt. Go behind the scenes with Kentucky Wildcats TV to see more of the fun from Nashville where the Wildcats got back in the win column this past Saturday.

Enjoy the high-definition views with a mixture of Tom Leach’s call and Mark Stoops’ pregame speech over music.

Vanderbilt is also REALLY bad at basketball this year. Like, unbelievably bad right now.

Kentucky-Indiana series revival?

Sorry, but not yet.

From 1969 through 2011, the Kentucky Wildcats took on the Indiana Hoosiers at least once every year. The two teams actually played twice during the 1972-73, 1974-75, 1982-83 and 2011-12 seasons. They’ve combined to play 57 times dating back to 1924.

Following Indiana’s upset win over Kentucky at Assembly Hall back in 2011, though, the home-and-home series was put on hold — potentially for good. Since then, the teams have only played twice, both times in the NCAA Tournament (2012, 2016).

With new head coach Mike Woodson, a good friend of John Calipari’s, in charge at IU now, that trend might change. However, it might still be years away.

“Mike and I are good friends,” Calipari said following Kentucky’s 80-55 win over Mount St. Mary’s. “We’ve talked about stuff, but there’s nothing imminent that I could talk to you about.”

‘Cats headed to Reese’s Senior Bowl

Kentucky Football’s Josh Paschal and Yusuf Corker have both accepted invitations to play in the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl, which is scheduled for Saturday, February 5, 2022. The Reese’s Senior Bowl is college football’s biggest all-star game, giving NFL Draft hopefuls a chance to display their skills in front of scouts and a national television audience on ESPN and the NFL Network

Paschal and Corker were two of five Wildcats named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List and have performed well enough this season to make the final cut.

Darian Kinnard: Outland Trophy semifinalist

Kentucky offensive tackle Darian Kinnard has been named one of six semifinalists for the Outland Trophy, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman, announced today by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee.

The All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) selected the semifinalists from nominations by the entire membership.

Along with Kinnard, the field includes defensive tackle Jordan Davis of Georgia, offensive tackle Ikem Ekwonu of North Carolina State, center Tyler Linderbaum of Iowa, offensive tackle Evan Neal of Alabama and offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere of Ohio State.

That’s the news and notes we have for you this morning. Tune in to the radio show in an hour to listen to Matt Jones and the crew.
