Kroger KSR Game of the Week heads to Versailles

The seventh Kroger KSR Game of the Week in 2021 is set to feature two Lexington-area schools, a clash between the Woodford County Yellow Jackets and the West Jessamine Colts. The former remains undefeated and sits at No. 3 in 5A and No. 15 overall in KSR’s State Rankings, while the latter is unranked at 3-2 overall through week five.
Woodford County is led by Bryce Patterson at quarterback, who has thrown for 652 yards, six touchdowns and one interception to go with 172 yards and six touchdowns on 43 carries. Running back Preston Stacy has also rushed for 334 yards and five touchdowns in three games. Athlete Jacob Johnson has added 203 receiving yards and 177 rushing yards for a combined six touchdowns on the year.
The Yellow Jackets have defeated the likes of Glasgow (56-0), Campbell County (34-13), Dunbar (62-12) and Franklin County (24-21), while also taking home a forfeit victory against Tates Creek.
West Jessamine is led by star quarterback Jacob Jones, who has thrown for 1,000 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions to go with 396 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. His primary target at wide receiver is Ernest Stanfield, who has picked up 467 yards and five touchdowns through the air. Wide receiver Dalton Carter has added 365 yards and four touchdowns, while running back Bryce Chesnut has rushed for 392 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
The Colts sit at 3-2 with wins over George Rogers Clark (35-21), Harrison County (49-14) and East Jessamine (26-7) and losses to Southwestern (55-25) and Blazer (58-21).
The Yellow Jackets are off to their best start since 2007 and have never their first six games of the year. The Colts, though, are led by a superstar quarterback in Jacob Jones and have won big in their victories this season.
Woodford County vs. West Jessamine will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET in Versailles on Friday Night. The KSR crew will be there to break down all the action in person, with coverage to follow on the website.

Mark Stoops previews Florida
KSR’s Game of the Week will certainly hold us over for the day, but make no mistake about it, all eyes are on Kentucky football’s matchup against the Florida Gators on Saturday.
To get ready for the anticipated matchup, Mark Stoops spoke to the media Thursday to break down the Gators and discuss the Wildcats’ week of practice leading up to Saturday.
“Solid week of preparation so far,” Stoops said. “Beautiful day out here today, last couple days have been warm. Guys have been working hard, concentrating on our team and trying to get better. Looking forward to this opportunity.”

Basketball recruiting ramps up
John Calipari and the UK staff will host two very important visitors this weekend. The first? Five-star forward Chris Livingston, who committed to Kentucky back in September.
He arrived in Lexington for his official visit on Thursday, the place he calls his “second home.”

Livingston, a 6-foot-7 wing out of Akron, OH, is ranked as the fourth-best player in the class of 2022 by On3.
Beyond Livingston, the five-star center Adem Bona is also set to arrive in Lexington for his official visit, which is scheduled to run from Oct. 1-3.
Bona, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound center out of Prolific Prep, is down to Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas and the NBL, with the Wildcats and Bruins seen as the heavy favorites.
“I’m mostly looking for schools where it feels like home because I’m far away from home,” Bona told KSR back in July. “I want to go somewhere where I can build a strong relationship with the coaching staff, the players and the environment. I want to feel comfortable where I’m going to play basketball.
“I’m looking for a school that can develop me and make me a better basketball player, a better person.”
Will that school be Kentucky? We’ll have a much better idea of where things stand this weekend.
