March Madness is getting closer and closer. On Sunday, Kentucky Women’s Basketball celebrated its Senior Day with a top-10 opponent in Lexington, while Mark Pope’s men’s team has only two home games and two road games left on its remaining regular season schedule. Baseball and softball are also around the corner in Lexington, plus postseason high school basketball beginning in Kentucky this week.

We’ll hit those topics and more in a new Monday morning rundown to lead off the week. I hope you have a good one.

Kentucky WBB couldn’t finish the job on Senior Day

Kentucky WBB honored its two seniors, Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence, before hosting No. 7 LSU in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Sunday. The Wildcats were the better team for a half until Kim Mulkey’s Tigers dominated the third quarter, 23-6, to erase Kentucky’s 38-26 halftime lead. Kentucky briefly retook the lead with a late run in the fourth quarter. Still, LSU prevailed in the end to spoil the Senior Day fun, winning 65-58.

Amoore led Kentucky with 16 points and five assists in her second-to-last game in Lexington. Lawrence, who joined the 1,500-point club, scored nine, matching Clara Strack with 3-11 shooting from the field. Amelia Hassett shot 3-10 and 1-8 from 3, part of a cold-shooting afternoon for the home team.

Kentucky hosts Tennessee on Thursday before the regular-season finale at South Carolina on Sunday.

Hear from Mark Pope tonight on the Mark Pope Show

Mark Pope will be in his usual place beside Tom Leach for their Monday night radio conversation. A new edition of the Mark Pope Show airs from 6-7 p.m. on the UK Sports Network tonight, hopefully with promising updates to Kentucky‘s injury report. Can’t listen live? KentuckySportsRadio.com will share any important things Pope tells his radio audience.

Collin Chandler and Otega Oweh preview the trip to Oklahoma

Tomorrow, Collin Chandler and Otega Oweh will preview Kentucky’s Wednesday game at Oklahoma before the team’s flight to Norman. Oweh played his first two seasons of college basketball for the Sooners, so he should have plenty to say about returning to Oklahoma as an opponent and the bounce-back opportunity after his season-low two points at Alabama snapped a 26-game streak with double-digit scoring.

Kentucky dropped one place in Bracketology, still a No. 3 seed

Kentucky’s loss at Alabama had little impact on its NCAA Tournament standing. In Joe Lunardi’s eyes, the loss in Tuscaloosa dropped Kentucky from the No. 11 overall seed to the No. 12 while staying on the No. 3 seed line in ESPN’s tournament projection. Lunardi’s latest has the Wildcats in the South Region.

Kentucky is also No. 12 in the NET Rankings.

Kentucky shouldn’t slide more than a spot or two in the AP Poll

Ranked seventeenth in the AP, Kentucky shouldn’t drop more than a spot, maybe two, when the new Top 25 reacts to the win over Vanderbilt and the loss at Alabama. No. 18 Clemson may jump the Wildcats in the poll, but the teams ranked 19th (Arizona), 21st (Mississippi State), 22nd (Memphis), 23rd (Kansas), and 24th (Ole Miss) also suffered losses since last Monday.

District tournaments begin around Kentucky

Sunday marked the start of district tournaments around Kentucky for boys’ high school basketball. Tonight, 30 more games will be played around the state as the Road To Rupp begins throughout the Bluegrass. The 16 regional winners will play in the state tournament from March 26-29.

St. Xavier (Louisville) is the team to beat this year. The Tigers will again be the No. 1 team in KSR’s high school basketball rankings when the committee reveals its Week 12 Top 25 on Monday morning. See last week’s poll and the state bracket before the new update is published later this morning.

Kentucky Baseball swept Belmont in Nashville

Kentucky Baseball (4-1) spent a second straight weekend in Nashville, this time without dropping a game. The Wildcats played a three-game series at Belmont, winning 2-1 on Friday, 12-0 on Saturday, and 9-5 on Sunday for a sweep of the Bruins.

Sunday’s game needed a comeback. Kentucky was down 4-3 through six innings before a six-run seventh blew the game wide open. Six Wildcats recorded at least one RBI in the 9-5 victory, including two RBI from Cole HageDylan Koontz and Carson Hansen.

Kentucky opens Kentucky Proud Park tomorrow

Tomorrow, the Wildcats open Kentucky Proud Park for the season with a home game versus Evansville. The game’s first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m., with forecasted temperatures around 50 degrees in Lexington. See you there?

Kentucky Softball went 4-1 in the 2025 I-75 Challenge

After dropping a game to Coastal Carolina on Friday, Kentucky Softball (10-5) won its next four games in the 2025 I-75 Challenge in Atlanta, Georgia. The Wildcats beat Kennesaw State, 7-4, on Sunday, completing a five-game weekend with a total of 43 runs.

Kentucky’s other wins in Atlanta came against Georgia Tech (10-0), Memphis (9-1), and Georgia Tech (16-6). On Friday, the Wildcats will head to Bowling Green, Kentucky, for five more in the 2025 WKU Tournament, with games against Evansville (x2), Western Kentucky (x2), and Tennessee Tech.
