July is halfway over, and college football season is right around the corner. We can almost smell toe meeting leather on Labor Day weekend. The third week of the month brings a tentpole event for the Southeastern Conference.

Talking season has officially arrived.

The KSR football crew jumped in my family’s trusty Honda bright and early today to leave the great state of Kentucky for the Lonestar State. Dallas is hosting both the MLB All-Star game and SEC Media Days this week. Big D should not be boring. Maybe local sports talk radio can stop talking about why the Cowboys will not extend Dak Prescott for just a couple of days.

KSR will be locked in loaded and the Omni Hotel for four days as we bring you non-stop coverage from the event as all 16 head football coaches and select players will be present. Commissioner Greg Sankey will get the show started with his State of the Conference Address on Monday. After Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark took some shots at the ACC and Pac-2 Commissioner Teresa Gould gave a big toast with an open bar out in Las Vegas, all eyes and ears could be paying close attention to Sankey’s comments this year. With many changes on the horizon, we could learn what the immediate plans for the SEC could be with revenue sharing arriving soon.

We have been pumping out the preview content and will have more on the way today.

The latest on the AAU circuit

KSR’s Zack Geoghegan hit the road this week for your favorite Kentucky website to cover an important recruiting event before the Peach Jam arrives. Down in the Palmetto State, there was a busy day on the Adidas circuit with Kentucky head coach Mark Pope and his staff present.

We’ve got the latest right here. There are also some updates on some specific recruiting targets as Kentucky’s staff continues to build relationships with high school prospects.

Stay locked in with KSR as we keep pumping out the updates from the trail as Pope works on building his first high school recruiting class at Kentucky.

Pierceson Coody leads the ISCO Championship

Ludvig Aberg and Robert MacIntyre could be headed towards a Sunday duel in the Scottish Open, but another professional golf tournament is being held in Lexington’s backyard. Keene Trace Golf Club is the home of the ISCO Championship, and Pierceson Coody still holds the lead after moving day.

The Texas product fired a four-under 68 on Saturday to move to 20-under at the alternate event through 54 holes. The 24-year-old holds just a one-shot lead heading into Sunday.

Rece Hinds is the new king of Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Reds have had a disappointing season filled with some bad injury luck. A team with high expectations will enter the All-Star break with a losing record. Due to the injuries, president of baseball operations Nick Krall has had to dig into the club’s minor league depth to find answers. A recent call-up has become the best story in baseball.

Rece Hinds is a 23-year-old former second-round pick who was hitting just .216 with a .699 OPS in Triple-A this season. Despite the iffy numbers, the Reds decided to give the young power hitter a shot at facing big league pitching. Hinds keeps crushing the ball.

The outfielder followed a grand slam on Friday night with his first multi-homer game on Saturday in Cincinnati’s 10-6 home win over the Miami Marlins.

In just a week, Hinds has recorded five home runs, nine total extra-base hits, a grand slam, and a multi-home run game. The outfielder is hitting .500 in 22 major league at-bats with a .500 batting average and a 1.409 slugging percentage. The man simply cannot miss.

Now everyone is waiting to see what he will do next as the Reds go for a sweep on Sunday afternoon at Great American Ballpark.
