KSR Today: Shaedon Sharpe is on campus; Wan'Dale Robinson goes pro
Good morning, folks! There are some important Men’s Basketball notes we need to hit today. Plus, the Milwaukee Bucks are now public enemy number one for the Big Blue Nation. Let’s dive right into everything you need to know to get your Thursday off to a terrific start.
Lots of basketball news
Tuesday night’s loss to LSU still stings 36 hours later, but there isn’t much time left to grieve. Kentucky is back in action this Saturday for a home game against the worst team in the SEC, the Georgia Bulldogs.
On Wednesday, we learned that point guard Sahvir Wheeler is day-to-day with the neck injury that forced him out of the game against LSU not even four minutes into the contest. His backcourt co-star, TyTy Washington, should play against Georgia after dealing with cramps against the Tigers, but we’ll have to wait for another update on him before making any conclusions.
We also learned, thanks to head coach John Calipari during his weekly call-in radio show, that five-star guard Shaedon Sharpe is officially on campus and getting ready to practice.
“Well, he worked out today on — you know, individual workouts,” Calipari said during his weekly call-in radio show. “We’ll bring him along slowly. I want him in practice, I want to see him fly up and down the court and play that way, have that mentality. It takes time to teach it. I want to see, can he make shots when he’s playing that fast? All that stuff.”
Another piece of basketball news broke last night, too. Kentucky’s five-star class of 2022 point guard commit, Skyy Clark, will make his return from an ACL injury later tonight.
The future Wildcat is set to make his season debut at 5 p.m. ET when Montverde Academy (FL) takes on Sunrise Christian (KS) in the La Porte Invitational. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and Calipari is expected to be in attendance.
It will be the first of three games for Clark at the La Porte Invitational, with Montverde also playing Bishop Walsh (MD) at 5 p.m. on Jan. 7 (ESPN+) and La Lumiere (IN) at 7 p.m. on Jan. 8 (ESPN+).
Football decisions: Stay or Go
The dominos are starting to fall regarding NFL Draft decisions for current Kentucky Wildcats. With another Citrus Bowl win now behind them, it’s allowed time to discuss the future with their friends and families.
So far, we already know of a couple of ‘Cats heading to the big leagues.
Both WR Wan’Dale Robinson and DL Marquan “Bully” McCall declared for the 2022 NFL Draft on Wednesday. LB DeAndre Square said during Wednesday night’s BBN Radio that his decision would come in the near future. We already know that QB Will Levis is sticking around for another season.
Other key decisions we’re waiting on will come from the likes of RB Chris Rodriguez Jr., OL Dare Rosenthal, and LB Jordan Wright.

We are now Milwaukee Bucks haters
The Milwaukee Bucks waived DeMarcus Cousins last night, mere moments after he posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double against the Toronto Raptors.
Boogie had been playing quite well for the Bucks this season after getting picked up on Dec. 1. He was the replacement for still-injured Milwaukee center Brook Lopez and more than held his won. Cousins averaged 9.1 points and 5.8 rebounds on 46.6 percent shooting across 17 appearances for the Bucks, including five starts.
So why did the Bucks waive him? Because the team’s billionaire owners got cheap, that’s why! Is anyone surprised?
The Bucks were able to shave *some* money by waiving Cousins ahead of his guarantee date on Friday. They could theoretically bring him back, but other franchises are expected to show interest as well. Let’s hope he lands somewhere soon.
WBB hosts No. 15 Georgia
After what felt like an eternity, Kentucky Women’s Basketball is back.
Later tonight, the No. 21 (7-3) Wildcats will face the No. 15 Georgia Bulldogs (12-2) inside Memorial Coliseum. Due to COVID issues, the contest will be the Wildcats’ first game in 18 days. It’ll also be UK’s first taste of conference play this season.
Luckily for the ‘Cats, it sounds like everyone is back to full strength and COVID-19 is no longer a locker room issue. Kentucky WBB head coach Kyra Elzy said during her season-opening radio show on Wednesday night that everyone will be available to play against UGA.
“Everybody will be fully available tomorrow,” Elzy said. “That’s excellent news!”
The Wildcats will face Georgia at 7 p.m. ET in Memorial Coliseum. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+. Grant Grubbs will have a full preview coming to the site very shortly.
That’s all the news I have for you this morning. We’ve got Matt Jones and the crew coming up in an hour. See you then!
