I hope you’re staying safe and warm out there as the winter storm continues to hit Kentucky and much of the eastern half of the country. Almost 80 thousand Kentuckians are without power after snow and ice swept the state on Sunday, with more to come on Monday. The outages and hazardous road conditions led to several closures around the state, including all state office buildings and many schools and businesses. Check your local news in your community for more on your area.

Otherwise, stay home unless you’re needed and try to enjoy the snow day if you’re able. We’ll be updating KentuckySportsRadio.com throughout the day, beginning with a new Monday rundown sponsored by my raging back pain. A reminder to push, don’t lift, when shoveling snow–or just pay the neighbor’s kid the thirty bucks.

Kentucky Women’s Basketball won its first SEC road game by 18 points

Kentucky Women’s Basketball moved to 2-0 in the SEC on Sunday, winning at Vanderbilt on the first road trip on the league schedule. After setting the school record for 3s in the SEC opener, Kentucky stayed hot in Nashville, hitting 15 3-pointers in the 96-78 win in Memorial Gym.

Five Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Georgia Amoore’s 24 points and nine assists. With her, Amelia Hassett had a career day with six 3-pointers, nine rebounds, and five assists, while Dazia Lawrence and Clara Strack added 17 points each, and Teonni Key scored 14 in a fun afternoon in Nashville.

No Kentucky MBB pregame interviews or Mark Pope Show before Georgia

Due to the weather, Kentucky Basketball will not hold its typical Monday Q&A, so we will not hear from the Wildcats before tomorrow night’s game in Athens. Additionally, Mark Pope’s Monday call-in show is postponed until Wednesday once the team returns from Georgia.

Kentucky to climb the Top 25 later today

Three top-10 teams suffered losses since last week’s update to the AP poll. No. 6 Florida, No. 7 Kansas, and No. 9 Oregon each lost a game, so tenth-ranked Kentucky should climb three or more places in the Top 25 when it is updated later today.

Up top, the Tennessee Vols will be No. 1 for the fifth week in a row. Tennessee is college basketball’s only undefeated team, and the Vols’ dismantling of Arkansas should flip some of the 20 first-place votes that went to Auburn last week. We’ll let you know how it shakes out around noon today.

Kerr Kriisa’s “Snow Angel Challenge” on TikTok

Kerr Kriisa has some free time on his hands while he recovers from foot surgery. One of his newfound hobbies appears to be TikToking, seen here in his new “Snow Angel Challenge” video outside Wildcat Coal Lodge.

Changes to KSR’s H.S. Boys’ Basketball Top 25

In a couple of hours, KSR’s high school basketball voting committee will reveal the Week 5 Top 25. Last Monday, there was a major shakeup behind No. 1 St. X in the top five, plus five new ranked teams debuting in the poll. Will St. X hold the top spot again despite suffering its first loss? We’ll see soon.

Ray Davis scored another touchdown, plus other NFL notes

Ray Davis scored a touchdown as the feature back in Buffalo’s loss at New England in Week 18 of the NFL. The former Wildcat led the Bills with 15 carries for 64 yards; however, it was a two-yard reception from Mitch Trubisky that put Davis into the end zone for the sixth time in his rookie season.

Other former Wildcats in the NFL:

  • Chris Rodriguez had more tackles (1) than touches in Washington’s win over Dallas
  • Will Levis returned to his role as the starting quarterback in Tennessee, then got benched, then came back to throw a TD in the Titans’ loss to Houston, which secured the No. 1 pick for Tennessee
  • Wan’dale Robinson led the Giants with 10 catches for 43 yards in New York’s loss at Philadelphia
  • Carrington Valentine forced a critical fourth-quarter fumble against the Bears, only to give up a big reception in the Bears’ comeback drive to beat Valentine’s Packers
  • Za’Darius Smith continued to prove his worth in Detroit with a sack on Sunday Night Football, starting alongside fellow Wildcat Josh Paschal for the Lions

KSR is live from home today due to the weather

Matt Jones is at his house in Louisville, and Ryan is at his in Lexington for today’s edition of Kentucky Sports Radio’s morning program. Shannon The Dude, the real hero, made it into the Louisville studio to produce the show from 10 a.m. to noon. I’m a game-time decision once I get done writing this post.

Here are the show’s plans for the rest of the week, weather permitting:

Stay safe out there, and have a good Monday.
