Good morning and happy Monday to all of my internet friends currently reading Kentucky-Sports-Radio-dot-com today. That’d be you. Welcome. Stay as long as you’d like.

I just ask that you bear with me this morning as I’m a little slow getting back to the grind following a three-day weekend. Yesterday, I celebrated my birthday by watching an exciting PGA TOUR finish and staying off my phone for the day. While great to unplug, I’m moving slower than usual on this Monday morning as I catch up on things myself and try to get the ol’ brain functioning again. Thanks for the birthday wishes by the way.

But enough about me and my life, let’s get you caught up on the news before you tackle whatever is on your Monday to-do list. They say there is a heat wave coming in so don’t push yourself too hard. Drink plenty of water too. It’s going to be up in the 90s.

Kentucky Football held another Sunday camp

Kentucky Football hosted a Sunday camp for the second weekend in a row with yesterday’s Sunday Showcase and Wildcat Specialists camps in Lexington. Four-star Ohio linebacker Arvell Reese was among the many attendees on campus as Kentucky’s coaching staff provided instruction, scouted talent, built relationships, and flaunted their facilities in the latest summer football camp for high school talent. Kaden Moorman, a Kentucky commit out of Franklin County, made a guest appearance as a non-participant.

Another non-participant guest appearance, Kentucky Sports Radio was at the Sunday Showcase and you can read a thorough report of the day from Adam Luckett. A new wave of campers will be back today, including pre-high school kids for the first of two Wildcat Youth camps, and probably Luckett.

Kentucky Basketball played host over the weekend too

Across campus, John Calipari and his Kentucky Basketball program hosted one of their top targets in the Class of 2023. Aaron Bradshaw, the five-star center and teammate of DJ Wagner, was in Lexington for his official visit and he spent some time hanging out with the team and around town with the coaches.

Bradshaw received his scholarship months before the visit and the hope is his time in the Bluegrass will be enough to nudge him into a summer commitment; although, he still has more visits to take, one being Louisville.

In the meantime, enjoy this first look at Bradshaw in blue…

Kentucky Women’s Track & Field shined in NCAA Outdoor

Also in UK Athletics, Kentucky Women’s Track & Field finished third at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, over the weekend, highlighted by Abby Steiner’s record-setting performance in the 200M. Steiner broke the collegiate record with a 21.80 run.

Steiner and her teammates–Karimah Davis, Dajour Miles, and Alexis Holmes–also won the 4x400M relay. Watch Steiner hit the jets in Kentucky’s comeback in the third leg…

Tennessee Baseball choked in Knoxville

In the NCAA Baseball Tournament, the No. 1 Tennessee Vols were upset on their home field in the Knoxville Super Regional, one win shy of playing in Omaha. Now the Vols will watch the College World Series from the same place you and I will–the couch–as Notre Dame moves on thanks to Sunday’s come-from-behind win in the decisive third game.

The visiting Irish trailed 3-1 until back-to-back jacks in the seventh inning tied the game and then took a 4-3 lead. Three more runs in the top of the eighth put the game out of reach and spoiled Tennessee’s College World Series dreams.

Louisville Ballard made SportsCenter’s Top 10

Unlike Tennessee, Louisville Ballard’s softball team had a great Sunday on the diamond. The Bruins completed a perfect 39-0 season and earned national recognition on last night’s SportsCenter for the triple play against Lexington Catholic in the KHSAA Softball State Championship.

Ballard defeated Lexington Catholic, 3-2, in Sunday’s title game at Kentucky’s John Cropp Stadium.

St. Xavier won the boys’ tournament on Saturday.

Game 5 of the NBA Finals is tonight

The NBA is back in the Bay tonight for Game 5 of the NBA Finals where the Boston Celtics hope to steal another road game out west. The Warriors regained homecourt advantage in the series by tying the matchup at two games apiece Friday night in Boston and tonight one team will take the series lead in Game 5 with a 9 PM start time on ABC.

Golden State opened as a 3.5-point favorite.

Today kicks off a drama-filled US Open week

With all of the drama going on in the world of golf lately, this week’s US Open in Massachusetts is a must-see event for sports fans. It’s the first time we’ll see golf’s new bad guys from the LIV Tour against their old PGA colleagues in a major championship, one of the only tournaments that still allows the LIV golfers. It’s like a WWF vs. WCW storyline tied into a 122-year-old golf tournament.

Give us Phil Mickelson in contention on Sunday. Please.

Play of the Year?

Play of the year.

Watch KSR’s own Max Duffy throw his first career pass yesterday in the USFL.

Was that a Johnny Manziel money dance celebration there at the end? I’ll try to get confirmation from Max.

KSR’s morning radio show returns to its regularly-scheduled format today

The gang’s all back today following a week away for guest hosts, who we thank for volunteering their time. It’s a unique Monday because I’m on the show to help Matt, Ryan, and Shannon recap everything that happened while we were away.

Tune in at 10 AM. We’re excited to be back.
