KSR Today: The Best Football Uniforms in Kentucky
College uniforms are supposed to be fun. A few traditional programs are the exception, but for the most part, the more creative, the better. The BBN adores the Wildcats’ chrome domes. Louisville fans were happy to sell their soul to Adidas for a few bird-brained ideas. Western Kentucky has elevated the entire Commonwealth of Kentucky with one ingenious idea: Big Red Helmets.
Big Red is the hilarious Hilltopper that’s always up to some sort of hi-jinx on the sideline. Now he’s taking over the tops of the Tops’ uniforms for Saturday’s game in Bowling Green against Rice. It’s glorious.
Another NIL Analogy
In more serious sports news, NIL is dominating the conversation around the BBN. If you missed Tuesday’s edition of KSR, Matt Jones shined a light on what’s happening around UK that’s causing the Cats to fall behind in the NIL department.
Instead of using the Blackberry and Blockbuster examples Matt often uses, allow me to put it in brick and mortar terms. When Mark Stoops arrived at Kentucky, the recruiting room was a couple of foldable tables in the corner of the indoor facility. The UK football facilities were the laughing stock of the SEC. The Wildcats were so far behind, it took years of dedicated investment just to catch up to the rest of the league. If Kentucky does nothing to advance its NIL efforts as soon as possible, the Wildcats will once again be recruiting players, coaches and administrators with foldable tables in the corner while the rest of the SEC spares no expense to bring in the best of the best.
Kentucky is in the CFB Playoff (Rankings)
Kentucky is not exactly knocking on the door of the four-team playoff, but they are in the mix. The Wildcats were ranked No. 24 in this week’s rankings, the same place you will find them in the Coaches’ Poll. The Wildcats have now cracked the November rankings in three of the last five seasons. Kentucky is one of six SEC teams in the second edition of the 2022 CFB Playoff Rankings.
Time to Talk to the Kentucky Defense
Brad White and a few members of the Kentucky defense will field questions from the media this evening. They’ll share how they’re preparing for Mike Wright, the Vanderbilt backup QB that’s returning to a starting role this Saturday. Until then, hear what Rich Scangarello and the offense had to off Tuesday.
Kentucky Basketball SportsCenter Takeover
Before you watch the Wildcats’ return to the hardwood, you can watch them every night on SportsCenter. A conversation between Seth Greenburg and John Calipari accompanies a behind-the-scenes look at the program as the four-letter network tips off college basketball season. Last night on the 6 pm SportsCenter, Calipari talked about how he shouldered the pain from the NCAA Tournament upset and why he is so committed to giving back to others.
This afternoon we’ll hear from a few more Wildcats when Chris Livingston and Lance Ware hold court with the media at approximately 1 pm EST.
